Because having things on my ears annoys the fuck out of me ...so unless I'm talking on TS I don't bother with it.

MightyJoe 2007-04-24 09:46 PM

But headphones are only for one person, I normally watch movies with other people which would be my main reasoning behind the speakers.

I love High Fidelity speakers! I'm not into headphones though. I worked at Best Buy in the Magnolia Home Theater department and we had some really good speakers like Definitive Technology, Vienna Acoustics, Mirage, Martin Logan's etc... While I was there they also had the Pioneer Elite line of receivers. They definately carry the best sounding home theater equipment I have personally heard.

I don't use headphones, usually, but rather earphones. My current pair are Philips SBCHE590 - in ear phones that supposedly give the sense of surround sound (they're quite good). They cost £15/$30.

My last pair were a pair of really high quality Sony earphones that cost about £50/$100.

So I could probably see myself spending quite a bit for some really high quality earphones.

Speakerwise, the best I have is my Creative 5.1 set hooked up to my computer which cost aboyut £40/$80.

Since I use earphones/speakers for a large part of the day (about 3 hours for earphones, and 6 hours for speakers) I'd be prepared to spend money on good pairs/sets.

For computer speakers I'd go Klipsch all the way.

Do you remember the model of the Sonys?

Also, what kind of IEMs do you have?

Are you asking for suggestions? ;)

Lenny 2007-04-25 01:29 PM

Haven't a clue about the model, sorry. They were for Christmas in 2005, lasted me a year, and then I got the Philips for Christmas just gone.

IEMs? And I don't think I'm asking for any suggestions, no. :p

My question is, does anyone else here have an unhealthy obsession with audio equipment and sound reproduction? I plan to spend entirely too much on headphones and related products this summer.

Also, if someone wants a suggestion on what headphones to get, I'll do my best.

Answer these questions for me when you post:

1) What's the most you could ever see yourself spending on headphones?

2) What do you use your headphones/speakers for?

I hope your expensive and oversized headphones anihilate one of your ear drums during a Kamehame-HA.

Sovereign 2007-04-25 01:59 PM

Ah. Time to answer the two questions.

The most I'd ever pay on a set of headphones would be 30 dollars and all I'd use it for is playing games, watching anime late at night and listening to amv's and stuff that I've loaded on youtube.

Slyvr 2007-04-25 02:56 PM

I just bought a cheapo pair of headphones last weekend to replace the ones I thought were dead, but it turns out my mp3 play was just acting gay.(mp3 players can be gay can't they?) I saw a pair at Wal-mart that was only 97 friggin cents. Those things must last a day and die or something...

I've always been tempted to buy a pair of those big noise canceling bose headphones, but I would never use it. I only use headphones on the bus going to and fro school.

Grav 2007-04-25 03:42 PM

Bose headphones are overpriced. You can get a decent pair of closed headphones for far less.

Vollstrecker 2007-04-25 04:16 PM

Name brand equipment overpriced? Do tell!

Atnas 2007-04-25 06:41 PM

I use $5 headphones.

The sound is good when it's at highest on your hardware setting. ;)

My Dad has some really nice ones he got on sale at Radioshack for $50. They're an Optimist Pro 35, with a modular cord. Very nice sound.

iceman887 2007-04-25 06:51 PM

the most i would ever spend on headphones probably would probably be 150, but the ones i got hopefully will last me for a long time, because they were the most expensive ones i've ever gotten

i use my headphones for playing games, i mainly started using headphones for Counter-strike because you can hear where people are walking really well if you have decent headphones

Grav 2007-04-25 06:51 PM

It's all overpriced, but Bose specifically so.

Yeah, they're like the Nike of audio.

MightyJoe 2007-04-26 08:44 AM

But I love my Nike shoes...

Atnas 2007-04-26 02:08 PM

Most of the love comes from the money you spent, admit it.

Asamin 2007-04-26 02:25 PM

I would spend about $20 on headphones.
Speakers... If I had a large system maybe about $100.

MightyJoe 2007-04-26 02:55 PM

Most of the love comes from the custimaztion I was able to get on them.
