How is "down the stairs" the same thing as "across the hallway"?

K_A, my room is right at the top of the second set of stairs. So if I go down there are guys, but if I go up there are girls. I call it a hallway. Sorry for the non-standard K_A terms and ideas. So sorry I didn't type up everything how you would understand it, but I thought you were all-knowing?

I'd say "down the hall", personally, rather than "across the hall", unless it were completely opposite.

But I agree that it's a hallway, seeing as it's between sets of stairs.
