I'm going to say a couple words about the Colts victory last night (and yes we all knew it was coming):

Fuck you HoH.

Only about half the people that watch the superbowl watch it for the football, if that much. It's mostly for the commercials and the half-time show, and just to say you did.

I just watched part of it because a Chicago team was there. I turned it out 1/4 into the 3rd quarrter.

!King_Amazon! 2007-02-05 08:27 AM

I turned your mom out 1/4th into the 3rd quarter.

Sovereign 2007-02-05 08:28 AM

In which case you suffered too long.

Lenny 2007-02-05 09:56 AM

I find it amusing how they only play for 15 minutes at a time, and have more than 4 quarters.

I was rooting for the Bears, too. :( Just for the crack of it, mind.

True. I watched it for the Colts greatest victory in Indianapolis history, though.

I work smackdab in downtown Indy. There's a parade at 4:00 today. I'm totally going out in the 8 degree weather to celebrate with everyone. Hope I don't get frostbite.

WetWired 2007-02-05 12:25 PM

There are only 4 quarters in American football, though there can be overtime.

Lenny 2007-02-05 12:28 PM

Then someone has been lying to me.

This angers Lenny.

AFK.

Don't be a retard. It is considered a world championship.

Titusfied 2007-02-05 12:58 PM

Why would you think there are more than 4 QUARTERS? I mean, that's the reason they are called quarters, because there are 4 of them to make a whole. OT is just additional time to settle a winner.

Lenny 2007-02-05 01:11 PM

Two halves is better...

And how in Gods name can it be called a "world championship"? No-one else in the world plays American football! Having "World" in the title indicated that more than just America is firstly involved with the sport, and secondly actually plays in the sport.

If we called the winners of the Premiership "World Champions", then we'd be murdered in our beds!

Because football is played elsewhere, but only in America is anyone any good.

Lenny 2007-02-05 01:58 PM

That's no reason to call themselves "World Champions". They've only played American teams.

If you can find another team in the world that's any better, go ahead and tell me.

Lenny 2007-02-05 02:14 PM

That's no excuse! They're American champions, yes, but that doesn't automatically make them World Champions.

WetWired 2007-02-05 02:39 PM

IMO, as long as the NFL allows teams to be started outside America (which I have no idea if it would), then it can be a world championship, as the American exclusiveness is not the fault of the tournament organizers. To the extent of my knowledge, though, there are no proffessional American football teams outside of America, so there really isn't anyone who could claim to be snubbed by the declaration to be world champions.

Thanatos 2007-02-05 02:41 PM

The team that wins the NBA finals is considered "World Champions"

!King_Amazon! 2007-02-05 04:23 PM

America is the world duh. Everyone else is just living in America's world.

Personally I think it's pretty stupid that the winner of the superbowl is called the world champion, as good as they might be, you can't call yourself a world champion unless you're facing other people in the world. It doesn't make logical sense.

Titusfied 2007-02-06 05:46 AM

Actually, the first game to be played overseas is happening next year. It was a pretty big deal when it went down.

It IS a World Championship. Point is, there are European Football leagues, Canadian Football leagues, etc., however, people only play there with the hopes of making it to the NFL. The best players in the WORLD play in the NFL, and it's the highest benchmark one can attain when trying to excel at the sport of American Football.

It's not exactly an International sport based on popularity, however, it is recognized as a World Championship. Here is the article on ESPN.com that talks about the overseas games:
