2 More Challenging Riddles!
These are slightly harder than the previous ones I have posted. Everyone seems to be getting the others pretty easily, or close to the correct answers, do the difficulty was raised slightly.
1.) There are four (4) people that were kidnapped and are faced with this riddle to save their lives: The killer has loaded each of the four (4) guys up with explosives that will detonate if more than one (1) word comes out of any of their mouths (Don't ask me how, just accept it). Now, he lines the 4 men up in a single file line, and takes out 4 hats; 2 green ones and 2 red ones. The 4 men are temporarily blindfolded as he randomly places each of the hats on them (so 2 are wearing a green colored one, and the other 2 are wearing the red colored ones). Next, he places a wall between the First and the Second man, that way, the Second, Third, and Fourth men can't see the First. Knowing this, it is safe to say that the Third man can only see the Second man, and the Fourth man can only see the Second and Third man. Now, the blindfolds are taken off (and no, there was no possible way for any of them to see anything while they were on), and now the killer tells the 4 men that they collectively have 30 seconds to shout out the color of the hat they are wearing (only their hat color, not anyone else's). No forms of signaling or anything tricky will be done or else the killer will set off the explosives himself. Someone will always be 100% sure of what color hat they have on. Who is that person, and why are they saying it so confidently? 2.) You have two (2) non-homogenous wires, each that burn exactly 1 hour. Using those 2 wires and 1 lighter, how can you figure out exactly 15 minutes? This is a theoretical answer, so when I say no estimating, I mean that no estimating in terms of folding the wires or anything like that. Good Luck! |
1. the first man
|
Why? He can't see anything, how would he have any idea? Please explain the answer and not just answer.
|
Hmm, if 2 and 3 are wearing the same color hat, 4 knows he has the other color.
Now, it depends on the type of hat. If it's something like a cowboy hat, then they can see the brim. I know the solution to the second one, though. Light both ends of one rope and one end of the other rope on fire, when the first rope is done burning, light the other end of the second rope. The first rope when lit at both ends only take 30 minutes to burn. After 30 minutes of burning from one end on the second rope, you are left with a 30 minute rope. When you light this rope on both ends it becomes a 15 minute rope. |
Very nice on 2.) :)
Well, for one, to answer your question, lets just say for arguments sake that the person wearing the hat has no possible way of knowing the color. They are yomikas (SP?? That Jewish thing they wear on their heads). |
It was the 3rd man. He can only see the hat of the second man, but he knows that if his and the 2nd man's hats were the same, the fourth man would've guessed.
And it's spelled Yamulke. I know, I was just being an ass ;) |
Good Job!
So the answer is either the Third or the Fourth man for those given reasons! :) I guess I'll have to get harder ones from now on. ;) |
Actually it wouldn't work for the fourth man if he saw a hat of each color.
|
Ok, this is the deal then, it is a deduction answer:
Since this all must take place within the 30 seconds given, deduction will be used by the men to figure it out. 1. The First man is out of the question, he can't see shit. 2. The Second man is pointless too, as he can't see shit either. 3. If the fourth man sees two of the same colored hats, he instantly knows that he is the opposite color, so he shouts out the answer right away! 4. Now, the third man can deduct that if the fourth man doesn't say anything right away (because then he is looking at two different color hats), he has the opposite color of the second man, and therefore shouts out his color! This can only be done this way, and that is why the 30 seconds is crucial. Because either they will answer right away because it is obvious, or the third man has to be smart and deduct that scenario. :) |
1. They take that hats off, throw it at the kidnapper to distract him while he is they take bombs off and throw it at him so when he explodes it he dies. As they are throwing the hats they take a peak at the color. :P
2. They trade the 2 wires & lighter for a watch. Yay I got em both! ;) :D I did get #1 right though, that the third man looked at the other 2 and did process of elimination kinda. |

How do you figure he is screwed? He is the third man, he can only see the second man's hat, because the first one is shielded from everyone because of the wall. Therefore, he knows he is opposite of the second mans if the fourth guy doesnt speak up. Understand? If not, just read the problem again very carefully then read my answer, it makes perfect sense. :)
|
Oh, I meant the fourth man. He'd be screwed if the two he can see are both the same color.
I just typed it wrong. I was the guy who solved it. |
Easiest answer: The kidnapper.
|
It was never stated that the kidnapper had a hat on.
|
And it didnt say he didnt!
|
I wear hats occasionally
|
Well if it didn't specify if he FOR SURE had a hat on, there is no way that he could 100% know what color hat he had on.
|

|
I meant the other way around. If he saw one hat of each color, he'd have to guess.
|
i give up i suck at challenges
|
Well, if they were different colors, then he would have to guess, correct. That is why this is a deduction answer riddle. Once, the third guy realizes that the fourth guy has to guess, he knows that his hat and the second man's are different, therefore HE (the third man) would know that his hat color is opposite of the second man's.
Get it now? The answer isn't going to be one set man, it is a combination of the third and fourth through deduction. |
Both the second and third man will always know what color they are wearing.
If 4 sees two of the same color, he calls it out. Three and two both know they have the opposite color and shout it out. On hears what they say and shouts the same color as 4. Now if 4 sees two different colors, he is unsure and waits. Three knowing that 4 would shout out the answer immediately if he saw two of the same color, shouts out the opposite color of what two is wearing. Two realizes that he is wearing the opposite of three and shouts that color out. If an incorrect response killed only the incorrect guesser, then at least one of the remaining two would live. If one of them guesses wrong, they die, then the other says the same color and lives. If the first guesses chooses correctly, the last man says the opposite color and everyone lives! |
Holy shit, this is one of the biggest cases of thread digging I've ever seen. Do it again, and you will surely be banned.

HOly shit I been reading a old thread? but it's hell interesting, why don't you make more riddle like this Titus ?
|
It matters not whether you win or lose; what matters is whether I win or lose.
|
OK by popular demand here is a starter.
(1) The man who makes it, has no need of it. The man who buys it, has no use for it. The man who uses it never knows it. What is it? (2) You arrive at the gates of heaven and hell. Two guardians are here. None of them is sitting in front of a particular gate, they are just walking around. One of the gate leads to heaven, the other to hell, you have to find which one. The only thing you know is that one of the guardian is always lying and the other always telling the truth. You can ask one question to one of them. What do you ask? |

2. a question about this 1, u dont know which of the gaurdians is telling truth or which 1 is lying ? |
dam titus that was some interesting questions, it reminds me of probabilities in math class.
and 0nyx, you got me on the second queston, all i would do is run for it :-P |
Yeah, the first one is a coffin.
THe second one is something along the lines of, "What gate would the other guy not tell me to go in?" Guy telling the truth would tell you the gate from Heaven (Since the liar would tell you not to go in there because it is hell, but he is lieing.) Guy lieing would tell you would also tell you the gate from Heaven (Since the truth would be the gate from hell, but the liar would say the opposite, which is Heaven). Vuala! No problems guys, I have a shit load of riddles, those were just some of my favorites way back when. Make a new thread though if you wanna tell more riddles, and lets let this one die again... |
Quote:
this is what i think, who ever says the answer first "which gate is heaven" should be the right one ~if both say it is heaven......it has to be heaven ~if both say it is hell............it has to be hell ~if the first answer say this is heaven and thre other say THIS is heaven. i would go with the first. ~~its all about probabilities!! (dam confusing, i just read what i just wrote) can we just lock this thread instead, so we dont have to have this problem again?? (at least this should open up more threads though) why cant mods just close threads that should not be replied to anymore i.e. threads that are a week plus old |
First. Is a Coffin
Second. You would need to ask, Which door would the other guardian tell me to choose, and then pick other door. O.K thread, die now ! |

If more than 1 word comes out of ANY of their mouths...if u understand the terms basically meaning not more then 1 word can come out of any mouth of 4 people 1 talks means the rest cant or Boom... now if they said ~Anyone~ of their mouths then each could say 1 word...but they didnt so really once the 2nd person began to talk they would all die sticking to the rules of the riddle. Its a riddle ur suppose to think hard, everyone may think thats the right answer that everyone stated...but its wrong, they would all die if more then 1 person spoke. So The most confident person and 100% sure person of color of his hate would be the 1 and the only person who spoke first which can be any of the 4..Cause if they wana all live only 1 person would speak not all of them. But if its just typo from any to anyone...then the answers posted would be right. |
Dude, you are an idiot, there is no typo and your arguement up there is false. It means simply this: After word #1 (one, numero uno) is said, NOTHING else can be said, so unless you knew the answer positively, you wouldn't speak.
|
The first man cannot guess surely so he may die... but if he blows up, the shrapnel will kill the second man. If this is the case, the third man doesn't know what color hate the second man has and thus has less of a chance of guessing correctly. If he guesses incorrectly then his bomb will go off and kill the fourth man. So basically... unless they stand far enough away from eachother they are fucked anyway.
|
Holy fuck hang the thread digger right now. I thought these would be new riddles and I turned my brain on for nothing.
|
titus, im a idiot for trying to figure out ur stupid riddle...this how u treat everyone at these forums...i mean shit i knew a lot of forums were going to shit and all but a mod like u talkin shit to ppl for trying to figure shit out, cmon GROW THE FUCK UP!!!!!!!
put it this way when i stated what it hought was right...did i say OMG TITUS ur a FUCKING IDIOT!!!! its like this!! no i didnt so show some respect, and actually try to act like a mod cause ur not. |
You digged a thread and got me excited so you shall die.
