Two player mode rules. One as Sonic the other as Tails. I believe it was only in Sonic 2 but I could be wrong.

In 2 you could have a 2nd person control tails, but it wasn't a special mode or anything I don't think.

Knuckles was good but you know who is better shadow is alot better he is so cool.
