I talked to my host again, and he gave us two different oppertunities. Either, we could get one game hosted for free if we decided to add a top banner to the forums. The other thing we could do would be to pay him $20/month for hosting 2+ games.

In both cases, we could get more games hosted depending on the amount of "resources" they use, so in short, we could host a lot of low bandwidth games if we wanted to, or 1 huge game (2 if we paid). Personally, I think we should pay for the server so we won't have a banner, but then again, it's just a banner, and we get a server for free.

Oh, and by the way, it's a XP 1700 with 1024 ram connected to AT&T with an OC-48 connection. The reason why it will be so cheap is because the server isn't dedicated, 2 other people use it too, even though they're not exactly resource hogs if I put it like that :)

personally..i thnk we should host RUGUE SPEAR...but that is my choice :D

jus like host a tight game, like rouge spear or some shit and have someone upload it to some ftp and reg here and post a link to it, so every can get it, and we arnt to blame 0.0

Ok, listen. BNETD is a 100%, then something else. I think that 20 a mo would be better than a banner... But whatever :)

If we pay $20/month, we could host BNETD or UT for instance. If it doesn't take much resources, we could add more games.
Those were just examples, but remember that it has to run on a *NIX based system (unix, linux etc).

Bnetd is free so why pay more to use it?

The software used to run this website is free. Why does he pay for hosting?


He is paying for bandwidth and resources on a server that will be up all the time.

im also w/ xenn, should host DAoC or something like that. either that or a first person shooter like counterstrike or UT.

Okay, so do we pay or use a banner?
I'm not too willing to pay the fee myself since I don't really play any online games, but we'll see.

How big a banner, can we stick it in the top right corner?

I don't know yet. Maybe we should start a poll and ask people if they would quit the forums if we added a banner.
Actually, we should be able to get a banner rotation system, and maybe get a few sponsors too :p

Depends, if it's big enough then yes although we could do it at a reduced cost possibly. Chruser will have to pay extra and he needs a source of funding.

I'm willing to pay for the forums on my own as soon as we won't consume TOO much bandwidth (no worries yet :)), but I'm not willing to pay for the gaming server out of my own pocket. The game server will only cost $20/month though, but still.
The people that donate regularily will obviously get a better user title, maybe a gaming server moderator/admin position, options to vote for the games that should be hosted and so on.

Dude, I could bet we could charge about $15 a mo for banners, and we could get a few, (only on the forum).

No, $15/month is far too much, since we're not a large traffic site yet. We should wait though ;)

Either way, it was two games to start with, and personally, I'd suggest UT and DAOC/BNETD. Like I already said, I will pay for it the first month, but I won't keep that up after that, since I'm not planning to play too much. If you people want a gaming server (athlon xp 1700 with 1024 mb ram), you better help me out a little. If you want to be greedy, there will simply be no gaming server. ^_^

if i had a job i would pay up for it as long as id get some recognition, and for games those sound like good choices, but DAoC would have trouble on there right away seeing its a MMORPG and woudl that many ppl hear about it right away?? if not itd be more so a online rpg, so right now id say UT/BnetD

Am I the only one who thinks hosting Unreal Tournment would kick ass? Sure there are other games out there, yet Tourney is better in my opinion...

I would prefer another game that game gets so old :(

I'm already going to host UT plus another game, preferably an RPG. It sounds like we will be able to host three games, so that will be two RPG's then.

UT is a must-have to test the server capacity though :)

I just have NIX software for UT and BNETD so far, and if you want me to host UO/DAOC, you will have to tell me some about its functionalities.

doesn't penguin and the Mod clan have a server for UO already?

kazaa... i cant find anything that works on kazaa... i only found one which is an anime episode...

Chrusher try hosting penguin's UO shard... then we'll have stable players right away... and basically all you do for UO shard is you download the preferrable software... either POL UOX or Sphere... I don't know what you like but personally i like sphere... But Penguin like UOX... so i dunno... Anyways... Whatever you like UOX or sphere... Download it... Extract it... Run it and it's up... but for sphere u have to populate the world and customize and if u want add more script into... dunno about UOX... talk to penguin more about it... But I still think UO will be a GREAT choice because you can play 3d OR 2d according to ur likings... unlike DAoC :D
