DS Old and dead?

Wow, looks as if the DS has died out, their sales have PLUMMITED in the past few weeks and two months, sad to say all of the Nintendo DS enthusists are trading in their DS' and getting ready to get their hands on a real peice of machinery, the PSP.

Well, seriously, the DS has hit rock bottom, agree, disagree?

-=Rico-GP=- 2005-03-02 08:03 PM

I disagree.

1 in every 228 americans owns a Nintendo DS as of the end of last year.... More then 2 months ago. It's not old and it's not dead.

And include links in your posts when refering to statistics. I refuse to take a PSP fanboy's word of mouth for anything involving the DS

!King_Amazon! 2005-03-02 08:49 PM

1 in every 228? That means about 5 people in my school.

Grav 2005-03-02 08:54 PM

How many of those people have WoW? How many people have bought WoW?

!King_Amazon! 2005-03-02 08:56 PM

In my school? Who knows.

People at my school are noobs. Me, Danny, that's about all I can think of.

Grav 2005-03-02 08:57 PM

And now how many of them consume cock?

!King_Amazon! 2005-03-02 08:59 PM

Every chick minus 5 and half of the black guys.

D3V 2005-03-03 08:35 PM

(c)-5/(bg) = cock consumres..right.

Theres no way 1 in every 228 have a DS. Give me a link

!King_Amazon! 2005-03-03 08:59 PM

Well, some of the chicks like being lesbians, most of the black guys are flaming homosexuals.

D3V 2005-03-03 09:01 PM

NO variables, plz.

Sovereign 2005-03-03 09:50 PM

Number of people in the US via 2000 census: 295,589,508
http://www.census.gov/main/www/popclock.html

Number of DS units sold as of the end of december: 1,300,000
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=57545

295,589,508 / 1,300,000 = 227.3765446

Take into consideration some mild population growth since 2000 ~_~, and since you cant have a fraction of a living human, round up to 228.

Raziel 2005-03-04 11:11 PM

Owned, Sov. Very nicely done.

Grav 2005-03-04 11:12 PM

Just give it up. D3v has the upper hand. And his head. In his ass.

zonalon 2005-03-05 04:55 AM

the PSP is the greatest console of all time

Raziel 2005-03-05 07:07 AM

It's not a console, it's a handheld. Jackass.

D3V 2005-03-08 09:19 PM

Those numbers don't include the ones with dead pixels, power issues, and returned models. I can't find any sales charts.

Raziel 2005-03-08 10:40 PM

The PSP will have the exact same problems. You can't produce LCD screens without running into dead pixels. Period.

Power issues? Now you're just making shit up.

And of course they don't include returned models. If they did, the number would be a little higher, you moron. Plus, they can't count units that they've given as free replacements. Those numbers only indicate units sold, and Nintendo doesn't make their customers pay for replacement units.

Penny_Bags 2005-03-15 10:21 AM

omg pwn h4x

Hades-Knight 2005-03-16 08:20 PM

Sweet. Does it actually compensate for your lack of penile mass to post this here, or are you too stupid to identify your own rampant fanboyism?

Grav 2005-03-19 12:11 AM

Hehe. You said "identify."

Randuin 2005-03-19 12:52 AM

I got a DS as a gift, and it has a dead pixel, who do I contact for a replacement?

And Metroid sucks :( I hate the stylus thing.... Must get used to the dpad heh

Raziel 2005-03-19 03:33 AM

1) www.nintendo.com Look for contact info and they'll send you a free replacement.

2) Use the thumb-strap, not the stylus.

Randuin 2005-03-19 09:06 AM

How long does it take? Because my dead pixel is way off to the side and not very noticable (Just a bit in metroid because it's a relatively dark game) If it takes too long I'll just say fuck it and live with the single dead pixel.

Raziel 2005-03-19 10:49 PM

Honestly, I'm not entirely sure. Mine was basically perfect when I bought it, so I never had to contact them myself. I'd guess it's anywhere between a week to two weeks, though. If you decide to contact them, they'll tell you how long it's going to take (which won't be too bad) and then they'll ask you if you'd rather wait a week or so to determine whether or not you want to send the unit in.

The thing I'm not sure about is whether they give you a brand new unit or if they just replace the screen. If they ship you a brand new unit, I can't imagine it taking much longer than a week. If they change out the screen, I know that they send out "loaner" units to the customer while their own unit is being repaired. My confusion is to whether or not they actually repair units with dead pixels and return them, or if they just replace the entire unit.

Like I said, your best bet is to email or call them.

Grav 2005-03-19 11:55 PM

Hehe. You said "repair units."

Raziel 2005-03-20 12:05 AM

Which I assume is amusing because your own "unit" is currently in a state of dis-repair?

Randuin 2005-03-20 12:24 AM

I don't even think they'll replace my DS because the pixel is absolutely insanely hard to detect and was pretty much impossible to find during the playing of mario 64 DS... It's not too bad.

What games do you have for the DS? And what control mode do you usually use for them? I hate stylus :(

Raziel 2005-03-20 12:43 AM

Yes, they will replace it. It doesn't matter if the pixel is off to the side or in the corner. If it bugs you, they'll replace it. Trust me, I've talked to a lot of people about it.

I own Mario 64 DS, WarioWare Touched and the Metroid Hunters demo. I use the thumb-strap for Mario and Metroid and the stylus for WarioWare. The thumb-strap is best for more intense, action-based games like Mario because it allows you to hold the system with both hands. The stylus is better for touchscreen-only games like WarioWare because you get more precise control and you don't need to use your other hand to press the buttons.

By the way, I'd highly recommend picking up WarioWare. One of the weirdest, most addictive things I've ever played.

Randuin 2005-03-20 10:30 AM

Cool, I'm just waiting for some cash to come in before I get more games :) Mario 64 is pretty hot so far, but I still can't get used to controlling it with the thumbpad/stylus. Just needs practice I suppose.

I've read some reviews about Wario, and there seems to be either side to it. Alot of people don't like it because it solely depends on the touch screen. Does this bother you at all?

Raziel 2005-03-20 11:01 PM

Not in the slightest. In fact, I think the touchscreen-only setup is friggin' brilliant. The only honest problem with the game is that it's relatively short if you just want to beat it. However, the whole point of the game is that it's a pick-up-and-play title, intended to be replayed constantly for higher scores and such.

Using the touchscreen does take some getting used to, but in all fairness, so did analog joysticks. Give it time and you'll eventually have no issues with it. I actually had less problems beating the DS version than the N64 game. It takes some time to adapt, but once you do, it will grow on you.

Randuin 2005-03-20 11:11 PM

I can't even get past the second level because the turtle runs so friggin fast :(

Raziel 2005-03-20 11:21 PM

Use the long jump to stay ahead of him. While running, press R then B and you will do a low-arc jump that gets a lot of horizontal distance. It's the best way to keep ahead of that guy.

Another good tip is to always run up the grass hill at the base of the mountain instead of trying to follow him around the path. It seems like it takes forever, but it's actually a bit quicker. Just make sure you don't stop running while on the hill or you'll slide back down it and you'll have to start over.

Randuin 2005-03-21 10:04 AM

Yea, I've managed to get ahead of him in a couple of occasions but I always make a mistake and fall off a cliff or something :P

Raziel 2005-03-21 10:44 PM

Eh, I wouldn't worry about it. It takes some practice, but once you beat him, you'll be racing like a pro in no time.

Randuin 2005-03-22 12:56 PM

You're right! I'm on like 7th star or something. Thanks for the tip :)

PS: Loler @ the ice slide level. I accidentally slid into the secret tunnel and finished the level in comfort and style :D

D3V 2005-03-22 01:32 PM

2 More days until nobody knows what a DS is anymore...

Sovereign 2005-03-22 02:55 PM

Hmm, two days. What's that? Ahh a Thursday. Nah, can't think of anything I'd give a shit about, and certainly not something that would cause me to lose all memory of Nintendo handhelds.

Oh wait. It's the day that a bunch of psp fanboys go out, and fork over 200+ dollars on a device, then post threads about how much it owns Nintendo DS' "kiddy style games". I can hardly wait.
