Creativity has slowed down.

Man, am I the only one that feels like activity has gotten shitted on the last couple of years? Look at this forum.

-What da fuck happened in the flame forum? Nobody posts there anymore. And even if someone does, it has NOWHERE near the intensity or effort put behind it anymore.
-Zelaron melee shitted on itself.
-Member participation is down.
-The number of members itself is down.

Now compare that to yourself. Do you feel as productive now as you did 3 years ago? I sure don't. I'm sort of stuck in this "I can never have enough time to do anything!" mode of thinking and can't undertake any projects like getting into a flame war because I won't have enough time to even finish what I started. [Actually WHILE I WAS WRITING THAT SENTENCE I looked at the clock and said "shit! better hurry this up!"]

Now if some of you agree with me, then what the hell happened?

-Has George Bush's cabinet of evil managed to lull society back into the 1900s?
-Was there something in the food, water or air that gave us energy, or was something maybe introduced to slow us down? [Naturally occuring or not]
-Are people simply being pressured too much? Is it a natural result of all of us becoming older? I find this less likely because even our younger members have reduced their activity. Mj and Slaynish, for example. They would be around the same age I was when I started posting here.

While I'm on it... why has the production of both "good" [and addicting] video games and anime basically crawled to a stop? It's an odd coincidence that this coincides with the amount of posting that's been going on in this forum, and the stress I feel like I'm put under. Is originality and creativity in the world as a whole dropping dramatically?

I remember saying sometime in the past couple of years, maybe it was around the fall of 2003, that nothing new had been happening in games and anime and it was boring as hell. And still right now there has been no new game or anime to wow me or that I even really find worth playing. Sure there are some good games, but nothing that feels really amazing. Such as D2, Half-Life, or Starcraft.

The counterpoint to this arguement would probably be the advancement of technology. But even then it seems kind of... slowed down! In the past year or two the power of single-core processors just suddenly hit a wall they couldn't get over. "Well guys... we made it from 100 mhz to 4 GHz. Can't do anything more!" What da fuck? Now they've got dual core processors, and are planning on releasing 4 and 8 core processors as well. How is this originality or productive, really? "Let's slam as many fucking cores as we can into processors and we'll have a successful chip!" It reminds me of the razors with 4 or 5 blades. Man, I still use a 2 blade razor and it works better for me than the 3 bladed ones.

Where am I going with this? I don't know, I'm out of time.

Well, the problem, as I see it, is that senior members get their panties in such a bind over new members being just that, new.. If a new member comes in and posts something that is different, we get a bunch of members basically ridiculing the person until they just decide that this place sucks. There goes our new members and potential to expand..

I mean, even older, contributing members get shit on sometimes. Perfect example is D3V. If you actually talked to guy on IM or something, you'd see that he is a normal person, not some racist bigot that half the members see him as. Well, there goes old members that are barely hanging on by a thread to stick around..

After 5 years of Diablo II, the main contributor to this forum isn't attracting hits like it used to. Activity lull..

Flame Forum..
There just aren't any members left that want to make the effort.
There aren't many members that realize it isn't taken seriously, so they get all bent out of shape over a few insults.
Most of the members simply aren't clever or witty in the least..

DaFrigginDoctah 2005-11-29 11:29 AM

It's like a relationship, when we all first joined these forums were fresh (to us), and we enjoyed them more for it, now that we've become "comfortable" (a word I have, in the past, used on long-term girlfriends, meaning at least two months of being together) we just dont feel like putting the effort through, mainly because we've already done everything. All the kinkiness of the forum has run out. For me at least, I know I dont really give a damn if some new forum gets added, but then again I've always stuck my hairy ass right here in Gen. Conversation, Chat, and lately, very, very rarely the once great Flame Forum.

Most of my previous interests in this forum have died out... But I still feel creative, I just utilize that creativity in other ways, in other places. Like work and my social life. At work (Home Depot), I have recently been promoted to management, so I am always using my creativity to solve problems, in my social life, that's pretty self-explanatory.

Anyhue, I'm sticking around, and hopefully this forums presents the oppurtunity for us to help it expand. It wont do it by itself. But at the same time I dont really care enough to try and make it happen myself.

If we still had the Melee Forum then you'd have the Meleee posts. Before the change there were quite a few new threads popping up. Now, we have no special Melee forum so there are no new posts.

And HR is right about the new members. Take Curian as a prime example...OK, well he deserved some of it, and if he'd have worded his posts better then everything would be different. Then again, we do get the odd new member who keeps on visiting and does stick around. Like sciencekid. He's become a good contributing force on the boards, so all is not lost.

If a new attraction is found then we'll be able to start cooking with gas.

What we need is more lasses. At the moment we've only got Jess regularly posting, though Senesia and Kidagakash do pop up occasionally. How we'd get more lasses is a perrrrdickyment and a half though.

So yeah, if we had a way to bring in loads of members we'd be fine.

Out of interest, where, if there is any, is the advertising for Zelaron?

Hades-Knight 2005-11-29 12:21 PM

Lets make WoW our new Diablo2...we need to get everyone on zelaron on the same server

Grav 2005-11-29 05:11 PM

A few hours I posted this I came across this article.

The Industry is in for a gaming crash

Quote:

Far from being the strong robust industry many see it as, the current 'next gen' consoles will probably break the industry in the same way the old one broke. It will collapse in a heap quickly, and few will lament its loss. Why? The same old reasons are there, and all but one is new.

First is the sea of mediocre titles. 90+% of them are crap, pure and simple. The old creativity is utterly dead and gone, that is the one new twist. How many games are not sequels, fight games, drivers, or FPSes? One look at the resoundingly mediocre crop of XBox 360 sports games shows there is nothing new under the sun, and they really aren't even trying. RPGs have become barely interactive PG-13 movies, and I won't even get into the whole crop of disasters that are movie tie-ins. There is one, possibly two titles a year that can be considered innovative, and that is not enough to sustain an industry.

D3V 2005-11-29 05:23 PM

For the forums. There isn't anything you can do. Most posters like myself joined when they were 16ish and have grown up some and have a life and other things to do. Most people I talk to when I'm online is either my girlfriend, any other RL friends which I keep busy with while playing WoW then I find something else to do (work, eat, whatever..)

What these forums need are some of the ideas that were being pitched around right before I got banned. Throw in some debate topics, schedule a night for them, Get a ventrilo running, get people back into the gaming aspect of the forum. Get your RL friends to signup if they play games /w you. Etc.

As for the gaming crash. It has been on it's way for a while, the most innovative thing lately has been online gaming. And even the DDR pads were good for a while, but besides that there isn't much that can be innovative until REALITY games come out.

Yes, reality games. I'm talking Porn reality games, put on your headset and your right in the action. I mean hey why not, isn't porn one of the biggest industries out there? Why not make it 3-D and interactive.

But anyways, Creativity needs to be fueled by intellegence, and yet, these forums are quite lacking.

And NO Grav, you aren't the first person to notice it you fucking shithead, it's been bad since I got banned and for what, nothing.

Another suggestion: Get rid of the staff. All of them, reform. Put Lenny in charge, let him hire people that are willing to reorganize the whole Forums. The ones in charge (besides SYG, who recently got the Nom) are fucking Cunts who don't deserve any respect over anybody else.

But mindless bitching never works, so yeah somebody else put in some .. input.

No, you're not. I've been saying this for a long time. I've made plenty of posts about this in the past i.e.: http://zelaron.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35568. Usually people told me, "Don't worry, it's a slow time in the year for everyone. Things will pick up once summer starts." Summer started, and now it's over. Things never picked up.

The truth is, I check as often as before, I believe. I'm not spamming 100+ posts a day, but I'm still checking. Any threads I find intriguing I post in. The problem is that I don't find that many threads intriguing anymore. I still post quite often at other, more specific forums, and whenever there is a thread, such as this one, which interests me, I post in it.

Heh, I could start debating on the same old topic. That would bring some activity temporarily.

Perhaps we need new strategeries on how to go about being more creative?

WoW was supposed to have been the savior of Zelaron, and it had the potential to be. I think the division between you and Vollstrecker divided quite a bit of the forums. The division caused (I believe) Timmay1113, Vollstrecker, Slim, MightyJoe and others to become less active here. It also made other members who didn't know what guild to go to after yours split to go to other guilds and become more active participants there rather than here. If Primal Dominion had somehow been the official guild of Zelaron, we might have retained all our past members, and had at least 20-30 new active members.

If anyone wants to scrap together a Zelaron guild on one of the newer servers that blizzard comes out with, it might cause activity to rise again.

Another thing that could temporarily boost activity is a large fight between two groups here. I don't know how else to solve this problem without recruiting new members like Chruser used to back in the day.

Thanatos 2005-11-29 08:44 PM

A large fight between two groups, eh? Dragoon Elite vs. the rest of the forum.

FIGHT!

Hades-Knight 2005-11-29 09:31 PM

I think we should bring teh pr0n and the warez ...then the forums will boost !

Haha! Funny thing is, Dragoon Elite, although we do live in our own little world sometimes, actually contribute to a LOT of activity at Zelaron, and we have already gotten about 5 very active members posting here, and they are all starting to spread their posting around the rest of Zelaron. Hell, even I started posting more often again, although NOTHING compared to my old self.

S2AM is a good guy, but he can get under people's skin. It's like D3V, unless you know him or give him a chance, you will most likely hate him. Some people are acquired tastes when it comes to posting style.

Well that's random. Have you been smoking something?

I don't see any reason why Crhuser, WW, Penguin and the Mods should be got rid of. As far as I'm concerned they're doiung a great job, and the Forums are still alive, so what's the problem?

D3V 2005-11-30 11:44 PM

No keep Chruser, WW and Penguin there, they get to be inactive as they are as of now. But the Mods in place can go. Except SYG (in my opinion).

Just a thought. The forums need more creativity, as thread has stated. Why not, more ideas just need to be thrown around, Gaming can only be debated/discussed so much.

After a long absence, I have finally decided, after much begging and multiple requests from high-positioned authorities, to bless Zelaron with my presence.

You've been here since September of 2003, and have a grand total of 3 posts? Grav's friend, I'm assuming?

Thanatos 2005-12-01 08:26 PM

I feel honored.

Sovereign 2005-12-01 08:36 PM

It means he likes you, and wants to go down on you.

Just one of his many accounts, close.

Grav 2005-12-01 10:56 PM

I'm sure it would be fairly easy to prove that none of them are me. You can ask WW, I guess.

D3V 2005-12-01 10:57 PM

You didn't hear? He died.

Premier24 2005-12-02 10:08 AM

Yeah, it's me, and by me, I mean Premier. 24. From WoW.
