Headphones
Something mantra and I have in common is that we both love hi-fidelity music.
My question is, does anyone else here have an unhealthy obsession with audio equipment and sound reproduction? I plan to spend entirely too much on headphones and related products this summer. Also, if someone wants a suggestion on what headphones to get, I'll do my best. Answer these questions for me when you post: 1) What's the most you could ever see yourself spending on headphones? 2) What do you use your headphones/speakers for? |
I get my headphones at wal-mart.
And I'm not talking the pricy $30 wal-mart headphones. I'm talking the cheap ass $15 headphones they have. |
Just curious, what's the most you'd ever spend on a pair?
|
$15.00.
|
Have you ever listened to high quality headphones, though?

You're lucky. You should remain that way... before you get AudioDisease!

Oh yeah I didn't mention mine are the headset kind, with mic built in. For $15.
|
I would so I am sorta a music man. I was in my School's tech crew as a sound man ffs.
I spent $80 on a pair of philips isolation headphones. I would prolly spend a good $100-200 in the future for a solid pair. Not just for using to listen to music, but because i'm a drummer and I need solid ones for playing/listening to music/band playing as well (would be my monitors sorta thing) and so forth. Mixing as well I may add. |
What's the model of your current pair? Whats your setup? (Source/amp/etc)
|
I have the Philips SBC HN100
They are pretty good for what they do though. Right now, I have no mixer or anything.im at Uni, I have my comp lol. I don't have anything at home either, needed the money for Uni as well, so in the future I plan on getting a good mixer and so forth. Its a money issue at the moment for me. I think I would rather upgrade or get a new drum set first to be honest. The one I have now is crap. |
Trudat son.
|
I use a $30 plantronics headphone/mic combo. Construction is crap, but the frequency response is quite good. I'm on my second pair.
|
My onboard sound sucks balls so I can't use my mic ...so no headphones. I've gone through several pairs through stepping on them. About 10-15 bucks each.
|
What does your mic have to do with headphones?
|
I just use the basic headphones, I think the set I've got now came free with my mp3 player. I'd love to get a surround sound set, however my room really isn't advantagous for such right now. But once I'm on my own I plan on setting up a full surrond sound for my tv.
|
Headphones are a better price/performance ratio than speakers, FYI.
|
i like big headphones too, i got these for 90 bucks
http://www.everglide.com/index.php?o...d=18&Itemid=44 i like the ones that go over your ear because the small ones that just push against it hurt after awhile |
Think I picked up a $10 set of Sony headphones at Walmart, and they're actually really nice. I love 'em, heh.
I doubt I'd spend more than $25 on a set of headphones, unless I'm getting something outlandish like RF Wireless Headphones or something crazy. |

But headphones are only for one person, I normally watch movies with other people which would be my main reasoning behind the speakers.
|
I love High Fidelity speakers! I'm not into headphones though. I worked at Best Buy in the Magnolia Home Theater department and we had some really good speakers like Definitive Technology, Vienna Acoustics, Mirage, Martin Logan's etc... While I was there they also had the Pioneer Elite line of receivers. They definately carry the best sounding home theater equipment I have personally heard.
|
I don't use headphones, usually, but rather earphones. My current pair are Philips SBCHE590 - in ear phones that supposedly give the sense of surround sound (they're quite good). They cost £15/$30.
My last pair were a pair of really high quality Sony earphones that cost about £50/$100. So I could probably see myself spending quite a bit for some really high quality earphones. Speakerwise, the best I have is my Creative 5.1 set hooked up to my computer which cost aboyut £40/$80. Since I use earphones/speakers for a large part of the day (about 3 hours for earphones, and 6 hours for speakers) I'd be prepared to spend money on good pairs/sets. |
For computer speakers I'd go Klipsch all the way.
|
Do you remember the model of the Sonys?
Also, what kind of IEMs do you have? Are you asking for suggestions? ;) |
Haven't a clue about the model, sorry. They were for Christmas in 2005, lasted me a year, and then I got the Philips for Christmas just gone.
IEMs? And I don't think I'm asking for any suggestions, no. :p |

Ah. Time to answer the two questions.
The most I'd ever pay on a set of headphones would be 30 dollars and all I'd use it for is playing games, watching anime late at night and listening to amv's and stuff that I've loaded on youtube. |
I just bought a cheapo pair of headphones last weekend to replace the ones I thought were dead, but it turns out my mp3 play was just acting gay.(mp3 players can be gay can't they?) I saw a pair at Wal-mart that was only 97 friggin cents. Those things must last a day and die or something...
I've always been tempted to buy a pair of those big noise canceling bose headphones, but I would never use it. I only use headphones on the bus going to and fro school. |
Bose headphones are overpriced. You can get a decent pair of closed headphones for far less.
|
Name brand equipment overpriced? Do tell!
|
I use $5 headphones.
The sound is good when it's at highest on your hardware setting. ;) My Dad has some really nice ones he got on sale at Radioshack for $50. They're an Optimist Pro 35, with a modular cord. Very nice sound. |
the most i would ever spend on headphones probably would probably be 150, but the ones i got hopefully will last me for a long time, because they were the most expensive ones i've ever gotten
i use my headphones for playing games, i mainly started using headphones for Counter-strike because you can hear where people are walking really well if you have decent headphones |
It's all overpriced, but Bose specifically so.

But I love my Nike shoes...
|
Most of the love comes from the money you spent, admit it.
|
I would spend about $20 on headphones.
Speakers... If I had a large system maybe about $100. |
Most of the love comes from the custimaztion I was able to get on them.
