Forum Leaders?

Just like to get a 'gist of what the rest of the community feels would work out on these forums.

Picture this:

You have somebody that 'technically' isn't a Moderator, Staff, Admin, whatever, BUT they have some of the abilities, such-as Closing threads in their specific section, editing Titles, Turning them into stickies, editing Polls, whatever may be needed at the time in that specific section..

As well as being able to edit/move in their specific forum, possibly even made somewhat responsible to keep threads on-topic, in-depth threads should also be required to keep the general morale of their forum up, where-as if somebody was to be a Leader of the Entertainment and Sports section, they should provide news, analitical opinions on whatever may be posted in there, and keeping people up to par for the most part on what's going on. Etc. It's basically a Leader, there's a million and one ways to expand on this, but basically would you feel to have it be nice to have somebody step up for various parts on the forums to help out activity and keep things in-line and in order?

Vote.

D3V 2007-09-25 12:53 PM

oh can a Mod change the first option to It'd instead of I'd .. typo

then Delete this post? K-thanks !

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 12:56 PM

Well, the people would essentially be mods of their specific forums. That doesn't mean they would be staff. In my opinion, they should just get mod powers in their forum and leave it at that.

Some suggestions:

D3v for Automotive
MJ for Science
Kagom for History

Deciding who would do it isn't very hard, in most cases it's pretty obvious.

Also, Gen Con and Chat forum and such wouldn't need mods, as our current staff frequents those often enough and there aren't really "leader" figures in those forums.

Esentially, these people would still be in the "Member" usergroup but they would have mod powers for their specific forum and would essentially be mod of that forum.

WetWired 2007-09-25 01:49 PM

Right now, only admins can edit polls due to constant complaint of poll vandalism in the past...

Permissions I'd have no issue handing out if leaders were implemented:
Sticky
Edit thread title
Open/Close
Things I'd need convincing:
Edit others' posts
Deletion
Not happening:
Announcements
IPs
Banning
Even the super mods can't:
Edit polls
Physically delete

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 01:52 PM

I'm pretty sure stickying, editing thread titles, and opening/closing threads would be enough. Perhaps moving posts and stuff like that would be necessary too. Editing other people's posts I'm not so sure, but as long as it isn't abused I don't see a problem.

D3V 2007-09-25 01:54 PM

Well the first few is all I'm sure the leaders would actually even need....

WetWired 2007-09-25 01:56 PM

IIRC, you have to be moderator of the destination forum to move now (which is why there are mods of the trashcan...), so forum leaders wouldn't have anywhere to move posts to, most likely.

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 01:57 PM

Yeah, all you'd need are methods to clean up the forum and such, banning and stuff like that is just completely unnecessary.

I don't even think they really need to be made "staff". Giving certain people some tools at their disposal could promote leadership in forums like the Automotive Forum, History Forum, etc, and make it easier for said people to lead.

Nope, I just moved a thread from the test forum to the staff forum and I have no mod powers in the staff forum.

D3V 2007-09-25 02:00 PM

Posts like this, constantly, every single day after every post legitimately make it so that nobody can ever take you seriously.

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 02:02 PM

Willkill, try to keep stuff like that out of generally serious threads like this one, please. Post trashed.

Ah, sorry. I'm not taking this thread too seriously. What will having "forum leaders" do for the forum in general that the moderators cannot already accomplish? If said moderators do not have the time to invest then appoint 1-2 more. The only saving grace of this idea is that if people are more hands on they may make more of an effort to recruit more members, I guess.

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 02:10 PM

Well, for instance, I don't have much interest in cars, and I don't know that anyone else on the staff does either, so it's not like I'm in the automotive forum making sure everyone is following the rules and closing threads and such.

If we establish leaders for these specialized forums, and give them some responsibilities, they'll be more likely to post good content, keep stuff up to date, and make the forum more presentable than if nobody is doing it except the mods when requested.

For instance, all of the threads that are stuck in the Automotive forum and such are stuck because D3v asked us to stick them. It makes sense to instead give him the power to do it himself and make him the "leader figure" in that forum, since he's the one posting most of the content and he's the one who suggested the forum in the first place.

Make D3v a supreme mod =).

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 02:18 PM

No thanks.

Willkillforfood 2007-09-25 02:23 PM

What powers do Supreme Mods have that WW didn't offer to forum leaders?

D3V 2007-09-25 02:34 PM

Well if you would've read his post you could've seen

HandOfHeaven 2007-09-25 02:37 PM

Seems like a novel idea.

Willkillforfood 2007-09-25 02:37 PM

I didn't see the "things I'd need convincing on". My bad.

HandOfHeaven 2007-09-25 02:39 PM

I just think that D3V wants to have some sort of power on this forum, but I will agree that this is a good idea.

D3V 2007-09-25 02:43 PM

For one, it wasn't my idea. Two I wouldn't probably ever want to be a Sup Mod, let alone being able to be a forum leader which may not even happen because of WW's agenda against me :)

Thanatos 2007-09-25 02:44 PM

Sure, why not.

Willkillforfood 2007-09-25 02:45 PM

Eh, I was trying to speak in his favor and he was a dick so that pretty well establishes things to me =D. The only way this is a good idea is if by more personal involvement this will bring more people. Otherwise all it's doing is saving supreme mods a few seconds of inconvenience a day. That being said, if D3v is a dick about things he can just be removed from his spot so I'd be for trying it despite it probably being an exercise in futility =).

Yeah, that's got to be it.

Asshat. No. I was the one who suggested it, D3v just decided to make a thread about it.

Really, I'm sure D3v is just dying to be able to open and close posts, and sticky and move threads in ONE forum. Geez, imagine what he could do with that kind of power.

HandOfHeaven 2007-09-25 03:00 PM

Didn't know it was your idea. Sounds like a conman to me.

D3V 2007-09-25 03:13 PM

Quit hijacking the thread, damn tools. It's always the same people. You've voiced your opinion already, now be gone.

HandOfHeaven 2007-09-25 03:15 PM

D3V, fuck off. You don't need to start a fight all the time. I did nothing to provoke you at all, and neither did they.

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 03:42 PM

Saying D3v is just suggesting this because he wants power is in no way provoking him, right? Especially if you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

HandOfHeaven 2007-09-25 03:44 PM

K_A, go sodomize a goat. I really just think he wants power in the Automotive Forum because he wants to run it.

D3V 2007-09-25 03:56 PM

Seriously HoH, just quit causing issues. I'd like a more generalized opinion from the rest of the "community" rather than hearing your moronic opinions on things... I'd like to keep this somewhat serious.

I've been trying to help the forums more than probably any other regular member. The "power" you are refferring too is basically being able to sticky threads, you are being such a tool. Go look at the suggestion posts i've made, i'm not trying to take over, I'm trying to help. All you've done is manage to trash most of the forums with your idiotic threads.

Now, with the flaming out of the way, let's see if we can get any more opinions and ideas on this subject. Thanks k bye.

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 03:57 PM

He didn't want power in the first place, it was my fucking suggestion. And it isn't just him that we're talking about.

If you want to continue this shit then take it somewhere else. The next fucking post in this thread that you make better be no more than constructive criticism of the idea or you're going to be taking a day's vacation from the forums.

HandOfHeaven 2007-09-25 04:30 PM

You should stop being such an asshole.

Why would we need forum leaders though? Specific mods are alright, why change it?

HandOfHeaven 2007-09-25 04:31 PM

D3V, piss up a rope. I thought you even said you were leaving the forums. I've added activity as well, but lately there is nothing that good to post about so I just decide to shit on your threads. Do enjoy, douchebag.

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 04:42 PM

Alright, you got fair warning. Enjoy your day off, HoH.

HoH's comment didn't seem provocative at all. Not to me, anyway. The same was said about practically anyone who made such a thread in the past. HoH's comment seemed more like a side-remark to a legitimate post. The "D3V fuck off" comment seemed far more provocative to me.

Anyway, sounds like a good idea. I don't want to be a forum leader/mod, or anything else of the sort. If there's a vote, don't nominate me.

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-25 05:47 PM

Well there's no strings attached to it or anything, and it's not like people would be getting pissed at you for anything, all it would be is for you to be able to do stuff like stick threads and move/trash threads in your forum(most likely the science forum, since I can't see anyone else who would be good for it.)

You'd definitely be a fair leader though =(.

gruesomeBODY 2007-09-26 06:53 AM

Me, Sue and Titusfied are mods of the dragoon forum.

WetWired 2007-09-26 07:29 AM

That's a hosted forum.

!King_Amazon! 2007-09-26 09:18 AM

So what is the verdict? Are we waiting for Chruser's input?

If so, he's said he likes the idea in the past. When it was originally suggested in the staff forum months ago, he supported the idea(and helped come up with it in the first place.)
