h4xoring Tv Show.

I dont know if anyone saw it but last night on TLC there was a show about hacking.. They said the all time best hacker was
'Captain zap' and the best job he did was to change the clocks at AT&T 12 hours ahead so every single customer paid less for long distance. All he did was found the port address to the AT&T maintinance computer and logged in as Guest/Guest and changed it... But it affected so many people they considered it to be the greatest hack of all time.

The most amusing thing about the segment of that show was when the narrator said 'In hacker terminology: He owned it.'

But the main porpose of the show was to scare people away from hacking by showing their methods of keeping the computers secure. Hmm.. I think that would help 'hackers' find exploits.

What do you think?

I read a book, http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books , about a bunch of teenagers who basically controlled the east coast phone lines.. back then nothing was secure and you could literally do anything you wanted.. fun fun

I used to play games with AOL back in the early 90's when i was a youngin. I never paid for aol we just stole accounts and changed school records and all kinds of fun stuff.

But they made all kinds of laws against it + its alot more secure now so...

I saw the show myself, I though tit was a bunch of bullshit. They DID try to make the show to scare away would-be hackers. It made me want to learn more about the subject. :) Also, did you see that where Captain Zap had those two laptops, and he was sitting in the back of the moving truck? That was crazy shit yo'

He owned it.

lol

Adrenachrome 2002-12-14 07:48 PM

I saw the commercials for that show, looked gay. I hate when they make shows about stuff they don't really know about.

Jamesadin 2002-12-14 08:13 PM

Haha, its funny becuase its all done professionally, and the reporters wouldnt know a thing about hacking.

Sounds like grade a bullshit to me. I mean come on, if a company that size had exploits like that, then it wouldn't be much of a company would it? A company that size would have people that looked after security issues. Besides, guest/guest is default for almost everything, im sure they'd have changed it.
