Microsoft Comments on Half-Life 2 for Xbox
Further misunderstandings are cleared up.

Talk about landing yourself in hot water. In an article in a mainstream business journal, Microsoft's David Hufford, an Xbox group product manager, was quoted as saying the upcoming Half-Life 2 would not be coming to the Xbox after all, despite earlier announcements of the game. Fans quickly got into a tizzy, so we decided to go to the source -- the game's developer, Valve -- and find out the truth. Valve's Doug Lombardi set the record straight yesterday, confirming that the console will indeed be seeing HL2.

To clear the air, we spoke to Hufford about the situation.
GameSpy: In the Puget Sound Business Journal, you're quoted as saying Half-Life 2 isn't coming to Xbox. Valve's Doug Lombardi says that it is. What gives?

Hufford: Somehow it was a misunderstanding. We play by the book around here and until we see an official announcement from a company, we're not in a place to scream "IT'S COMING." We did a lot of screaming when we got Doom 3 on Xbox because the id guys gave us the green light to be vocal. As a rule, I encourage everyone who asks if an "unannounced" game is coming to Xbox to contact the publisher for an answer -- it looks like you heard it straight from Valve that Half-Life 2 will be on Xbox.

GameSpy: How did this miscommunication come about?

Hufford: I don't know. I never said Half Life 2 wouldn't be available for Xbox. I deferred to Valve at the time of the interview.

GameSpy: Why is Half-Life 2 such a big deal to Xbox gamers?

Hufford: A lot of people left their jaws in Los Angeles [at the E3 2003, ed.] after seeing the Half-Life 2 demo. Obviously having it on Xbox is a major win. And with Half-Life 2, Halo 2, and Doom 3 on Xbox we've got an unmatched triple threat among the game consoles.

This game is going to be sweet. I posted a thread about this a while back, too. I'm going to upgrade to Verizon just to be able to play this game. (gay AOL DSL doesn't let you play Xbox Live)

Thank god that it's coming. For a moment there, i thought it wasn't. That would of made me angry.
