Gforce or nforce or radeon?

Im about to buy a new graphics processor so as when i get doom 3 it will perform to my liking. Can any of you that have a gforce or another good video card plz tell me what is the best choice?

Grav 2003-10-14 07:37 PM

nForce isn't a fucking graphics card, it's just a motherboard with onboard video about equivalent to a first tier geforce 2. In other words, it's useless.

How much money do you have? The best card for Doom III would be a FX 5900.. but I doubt you've got the dough..

Get a Radeon 9800 Pro or Radeon 9800 XT, if you have the money.

If not, I'd go with a Radeon 9600 XT.

Grav 2003-10-14 07:40 PM

What in the flying fuck is a XT? "Ultimate?"

uncapped 2003-10-14 07:53 PM

XT is their next edition they announced at the Alcatraz event. The 9800 XT was released a few weeks ago, and they're supposedly better, and also come with a free hl2 coupon. The 9600 XT isnt out yet, but is supposed to be better than 9500.

zagggon 2003-10-14 08:36 PM

yea im prolly gona end up getting the radeon cuzz it only cost 100$ at bestbuy

Grav 2003-10-14 08:39 PM

Um, maybe the 5600 does..

Edit:
I would save your money for the RADEON 9600 XT if you can. It's under $200 and is more bang for the buck than the FX 5600.

Whats better a gforce or a radeon?

FX's are not worth the money. I'd wait for nVidia's next card or get a high-end Radeon.

RoboticSilence 2003-10-14 08:48 PM

The 5900 is about 300 - 350 and the 5900 Ultra is more like 400+

zagggon 2003-10-14 08:52 PM

Ruroni are radeon's worth the buy? I mean their are some really cheap ones on bestbuy.com but from what most people say Gforces are better...

Grav 2003-10-14 09:22 PM

It depends on what model you get, damnit. Nobody try to help him because he's too dumb to understand. Let him go buy a gf4 mx

Rurouni Storm 2003-10-14 09:24 PM

Don't listen to GS. Avoid anything with MX in the name.

Get at least a Radeon 9800 if you want to go ATI. If not, at least a normal FX 5900.

Personally, I find Radeons give more bang for the buck, but I do have some past issues that make me biased against cards made by nVidiots.

Sqrl 2003-10-14 11:52 PM

Mmm, indeed, I've been using ATI cards ever since my TNT2 card came DOA on a warranty replacement and of course was out of warranty when I got the replacement so they refused to do anything for me. (It took half a year to get the replacement, with proper RMA procedures)

If you want a Radeon Card to play Doom 3, then you are either buying a 9800 PRO or 9800 TX.

Um.... he didn't ask about the Quadro series though. ^_^

Plus if it's just for gaming, I don't think it's very suitable considering the price range. =)

iceman887 2003-10-15 06:55 AM

and dont buy them at bestbuy....... order one from like newegg or some other computer site because they are WAY CHEAPER, i got a radeon 9600 pro for 152 bucks dude and free shipping

WetWired 2003-10-15 08:48 AM

Look Zagggon, it goes like this: For anything up to the GF4ti6400/Radeon 9000 level, go nVidia. Anything past that, go ATI. (Get Radeon 9x00, not GF FX; Get GF4Ti, not Radeon 8x00). If you want it for Doom III, though, you're gonna want a DX9 card, which means buy a Radeon 9x00 (but not 9000)
