Some Changes

Since everyone seems to be asking...

Everything's all moved around
While we were exploring forum home possibilities for Synthesis 2.0, Chruser and I decided that General Chat was large and unorganized, so we gave it a much-needed overhaul and broke it up into Zelaron (things related to the forum), Off-topic, Interests (focused forums on non-gaming topics that many members are interested in), and Hosted.

Also new is the "Talk to the Staff" forum. Ever wondered which admin you should ask to do something or give a suggestion or complaint to? Now you don't need to. Posting in the "Talk to the Staff" forum is kind of like sending out a PM to all the admins and Sen. Mods. Only you and the senior staff can see your thread, so you needn't worry about your idea being stolen or that annoying member retaliating.

What are those diamond and blue arrow things?
Really, this is just an evolution of the rank display system that we've had for a while now; the difference is that the rank's name is integrated into the image and everyone has an image now, even if they aren't staff. Here's what they mean:
  • Junior Member (one arrow) -- Basic member level. All members start here
  • Member (two arrows) -- Once you login with 50% or higher activity level, you move to this group. Falling below 50% does not move you back to Junior Member.
  • Senior Member (three arrows) -- If you are Member level and have been around for 6 months or longer, you become a Senior Member
  • Temp Banned (no decoration) -- This person has done something bad and is being put in "time out" for a day or two.
  • Banned (no decoration) -- This person is gone indefinately.
  • Whipping Boy (no decoration) -- This person wanted to be staff. So badly, in fact, that he went out of his way to make everyone think that he really was staff. As punishment, he got stripped of avatar and signature and got stuck with this title. New This punishment will also be aplied to people who constantly pester the staff asking for mod positions.
  • Advisor (two diamonds) -- Speaking of which, any sort of real special purpose staff will have this image
  • News Poster (one diamond) -- This person gets to post in the announcements forum
  • Moderator (three diamonds) -- This person is a moderator of a non-hosted forum.
  • Supreme Moderator (four diamonds) -- This person is a moderator of all non-hosted forums.
  • Admin (five diamonds) -- In charge. Also able to do forum maintenance
  • Web Master (six diamonds, one not solid) -- Ultimate power in terms of maintenance ability. Contact for any technical problems you may be experiencing.
  • Owner (six diamonds) -- Ultimate leadership power. It's his board and he has veto power over everyone else's decisions.

Edit:
New whipping boy clause...

You totally forgot hitman...

I'll do the reviews sometime.

Titusfied 2003-10-31 09:56 AM

I likey, especially Whipping Boy. We should get more like that too. ;)

He was at one point, but at that point in time, only he was aware that he was being punished. Since then, he hasn't posed as staff, and so is technically not qualified for the usergroup. Hmm, maybe we should redefine it to also include people that won't stop asking for staff positions...

Mostly, it's just for the humilliation. You know,"he who exalts himself will be humbled". Besides that, after a few days as 'Whipping Boy', it will be quite clear to everyone else that the person is not staff, and wasn't staff before, either.

Hitman... YOU FORGOT HITMAN. Just add it to the list or something, then give it to me once I do the reviews. I'll attempt to do them all this weekend.

Just to let you know, the website looks a little odd in mozilla.

undeadzombieguy 2003-10-31 12:11 PM

I like those member tags, though the old thing was good too

In what way?

LiveWire 2003-10-31 01:03 PM

Hmmm, now that i see all the ranks and how they are used, its not all that bad. The more and more i see it, the more and more i like it. One day i'll be a whipping boy :p I've been waiting for a staff postion for a year now. hehe

khwiii 2003-10-31 06:44 PM

Wow... I'm a junior member. I guess I need to spam alot to get my activity level up.

Xenn 2003-10-31 08:36 PM

I would like to apply for whipping boy.

EDIT: Junior member? That doesn't seem quite right...

Grav 2003-10-31 08:45 PM

It's based on activity, <50% I think

Tai 2003-11-01 11:19 AM

The front page is spaced out quite a bit, the image borders don't line up. And in the forums, if a message is too small, there are empty spaces above and below it. If the message is real big, it's not there.

D3V 2003-11-02 07:38 PM

Can you show a picture of this whipping boy?

Demosthenes 2003-11-02 07:53 PM
