I don't do "reviews," so I thought I'd put it up in here. As you can tell by the thread title, this is my thoughts on the movie Troy.

So I just saw it, and overall it was pretty good, but there were some things I did not like about it.
1) It was predictable. Even if you have not, and I don't know why or how you could not, heard the story of Troy it's still predictable.
2) Some of the fight scenes were [/b]clearly[/b] choreographed. It doesn't look good on film when the actors actually look like they are anticipating the hit and where it's coming from.
3) Orlando Bloom was way feminine, although he was supposed to be.
4) A but no T. Nice ass, but was expecting a little bit more up top.

Of course, there were things that I did like about it.
1) It wasn't pinned "good guys versus bad guys." The director didn't seem to root for a particular side, which I thought was awesome. He gave perspective from both the Trojans and the Greeks.
2) Action. Lots and lots of action.
3) The sacking of Troy was probably my favorite part. Looked intense to have thousands of people running, full speed, through a doorway.

That's stuff off the top of my head, if I were to see it again or think harder there would be more stuff to add to both categories. Overall it was good, but some stuff could have been improved.

Now I know there is others who have seen or will see it, now post on up about how you agree/disagree with my thoughts.

Yeah, Im hoping to see it soon. I heard it was good, but it didn't have the heart like Gladiator...Which happens to be my all time fav.

I liked the movie a lot. If any of you play diablo II, i hope this isn't spoiling, because they do something to the effect of a certain character's skill in that. Quite frankly both sides had good tactics, but I didn't like that Orlando Bloom looked like Elijah Wood. He did look feminine, and played a wuss.

Of course it was predictable, it was based on Homer's "The Illiad". Quite a good war.


I give it an 8/10.

Honestly, I've never read the book, and I didn't find it all that predictable, until the end of course.

Honestly, I kind of feel dumb admitting this, but when Hector killed Achilles cousin, I had no idea it wasn't Achilles. I thought they were going to bring in some sort of "immortality" card and have the injury just heal or something...

Anyway...

Honestly, I don't quite agree with this. It wasn't all that blatent, and of course, some of the parts with Achilles anticipating the hits has to do with the fact that he is the greatest warrior ever. That was part of the stigma. Achilles is so badass, that no one really stands a chance one on one. In the larger battles, I didn't see obvious choreography, but in the Hector vs. Achilles fight, like I mentioned before, he is just that good. At least that is the way I portrayed it.


Who exactly are you talking about? If you are talking about Helen, I do not agree what-so-ever. She was absolutely drop dead gorgeous. If it wasn't for breast implants, you probably wouldn't be saying that. Not all chicks get tig ole bitties.


That could not have been said better. I honestly couldn't find myself rooting for either side. I liked characters from both the Greeks and Trojans. Achilles of course, was my favorite. I really wasn't expecting to enjoy Brad Pitt's portrayal of this movie, but he was honestly kickass. Kudos to him.



Now my own likes:

1) Eric Bana was awesome. Him as Hector was great. He and Pitt really made this movie badass.

2) Helen was smokin' hot. She is definitely a prize worth fighting for.


Dislikes:

1) I agree with you rabber. Paris (Orlando Bloom) was a complete faggot. I know he was intended to be that way, but he honestly pissed me the fuck off. He pissed me off more than Comadis from Gladiator.


Overall, this is definitely one of the best movies I've seen in quite some time. As much as I like Gladiator, I can say that Troy is extremely comparable. They are interchangeable in my top 4 movies of all times, depending on my mood. As of right now Troy is edging it out, but I'm sure if I watch Gladiator right now, that will take the cake.

The action was better in Troy than Gladiator, but I will tell you this

I honestly was more broken up over Maximus dieing than Achilles. Like you said James, the character, Maximus had a more intimate approach through out the whole movie.

Just a side note, but with all this comparison to Gladiator, I gotta say it. I would definitely give Achilles the one on one battle over Maximus. Achilles is that badass.

Ok, I don't get what the red lines are for but ok.

The thing I didn't like about the movie was the fact that there was nudity at all. I mean if your going to go nudity, get a fucking porno scene or something, not some chicks ass or Brad Pitts body 2 or 3 times.

But the part I liked the best was Achilles vs. Hector that was bad ass scene. The mano-e-mano fights were the best part of the movie.

And another part I didn't like was just when they would get a big fight scene going up they would end it. Then and there. Like it would be that easy. And this happens 2 or 3 times.

Because all those parts are things that spoil the movie for others that haven't read the book or seen the movie.

I put spoiler tags on Shinto's reference to Hector losing to Achilles 1v1, then Achilles dragging his dead body back to camp. I also blocked saying that Achilles dies, which is predictable, but I really wasn't sure if it would happen or not. And also when I stated that Achilles cousin dies and they thought it was Achilles! How are these NOT spoilers???

Saying that as in I'm disappointed I didn't get to see them, all of them. Yes, she was insanely hot.

I don't see a reason to use spoiler tags. This story is tens of thousands of years old. If you don't know how it goes, I truly pity you. You'd be doing yourself a world of favor to read the greatest piece of ancient literature ever written.

But, for the sake of not "spoiling" the movie for you people... (I don't wanna use spoiler tags. They're ugly, and I've got way too much shit to post.)

This entire post contains "spoilers" beyond this point. Stop reading here if you don't want the movie "spoiled" for you.

This movie was phenomenal. Although, I've heard a lot of people complain about the follwing things.

1) The Gods weren't involved in the movie at all. Ares, Athena and Hera all involved themselves in the Trojan War extensively in the Iliad. Personally, I like the fact that the gods were left out. It was a more honest, more realistic interpretation of the story, Granted, Achilles tossing a spear one-hundred feet directly into a Trojan's sternum is pretty far-fetched, but not as far fetched as Achilles battling a living river.

2) The war only lasted a few days, whereas in the Iliad, it lasted ten years. Again, I really like this decision in the movie. Seriously, there's no way in hell a war of that scale could have lasted ten years. Look at how many people died in World War 2 (in infantry combat, not counting Hiroshima, Nagasaki or the firebombings) and that war lasted half of that timeframe. Can you truly expect that groutesque amount of human beings to sail from Greece to Troy at a constant enough rate to fill a ten year fracas?

3) A lot of characters got fucked with. Ajax wasn't supposed to die against Hector. He commited suicide after Achilles was defeated. Agammemnon was killed by his "wife", Clytemnestra after he returned to Greece once the war was over. Briseis was just an object, not Achilles' love. She was a trophy to him, nothing more. Again, I don't have too much of a problem with many of the changes. The movie would have felt awkward if they had waited until the end for Ajax to die. Agammemnon needed to be killed quickly. There wasn't enough time for an entire sequence devoted to him sailing back in victory and then being killed by his woman. Briseis was given character value in order to give Achilles character value. Without her, he would have been a much less likeable character in the movie, and with movie audiences these days, the crowd needs to like the character in order to feel the full weight of his death. People these days aren't capable of basing a character's value on much else.

I thought it was a fantastic movie. Achilles was portrayed perfectly in terms of his selishness, arrogance and combat badassitude. Agammemnon was spot-on, Hector was done very well, Paris was perfect (he was a spoiled pussy in the Iliad, and he was a spoiled pussy in Troy) and Odysseus was un-fucking-believable. If they don't do a movie-version of the Odyssey (starring Sean Bean as Odysseus, I won't accept anyone else) I'll be fucking murderous.

Raziel, there already is a movie of The Odyssey. It's not really good, but it's only about 10 years old..

Achilles was the main character...

If you're talking about the Armand Assante version that was aired on USA a few years back, then that movie isn't even close to ten years old. Either way, I don't see how making a better version of it can be a bad thing. There are already four Batman movies, the first of which is 15 years old, and they're making a completely new, unrelated Batman movie right now.

Well, what about Clash of the Titans, that has to be like 20 years old, and it rocks!

Yeah, everything except for that robot owl.

Haha, yeah that was definitely an odd addition to that movie. If they remade that movie now, exactly the same, just different actors and better special effects, it would be totally kickass! I might pass this little treasure waiting to be opened to my Uncle Wolfgang.

Just saw it, and loved it! 9/10 from James. :D

"Beyond this beach, is immortality! Take it! It's yours!" The later part was always advertised, but the beginning part made it so much better at that junction in the movie. Good show, definitely. 9.5/10, solid.

I just saw it again. Amazing. Such good strategy again.

Troy was the best movie ive ever saw, it was just like the lord of the rings but better
