Quick Riddle.

Think of words ending in -GRY. Angry and hungry are two of them. Now, being that there are only three words in the English language, what is the third word? The word is something that everyone uses every day. If you have listened carefully, I have already told you what it is.

And another one to tickle your fancy.

What row of numbers comes next?
1
11
21
1211
111221
312211
13112221

in this case the answer must surely be “language” (the third word in “the English language”).

aggry: Coloured and variegated glass beads of ancient manufacture, found buried in the ground in Africa. A word of unknown origin. Seemingly always used attributively, as in aggry beads.

braggry: A variant form of braggery. Obsolete.

conyngry: An obsolete dialectal variant of conyger, itself an obsolete term meaning “rabbit warren”.

gry: The smallest unit in Locke’s proposed decimal system of linear measurement, being the tenth of a line, the hundredth of an inch, and the thousandth of a (“philosophical”) foot. Also the grunt of a pig, an insignificant trifle, or a verb meaning to roar. Obsolete.

iggry: Egyptian colloquial Arabic pronunciation of ijri: “Hurry up!”, brought back after the First World War by members of British and Australian forces who had fought in Egypt.

meagry: Having a meagre appearance. Obsolete.

nangry: A variant form of angry. Obsolete.

podagry: Dodder, or the condition of a plant infested with it.

puggry: A variant form of puggree, a light turban or head-covering worn by inhabitants of the Indian subcontinent.

pwned .

Titusfied 2004-05-27 08:22 PM

Correct, but that was the easy one. ;)

Titusfied 2004-05-27 08:23 PM

Nope. This one is a lot tougher.

11121221

or

11121212

Titusfied 2004-05-27 08:48 PM

Nopers. I will tell you this:

It has 10 numbers in the answer.

Grav 2004-05-27 09:12 PM

NVM, that was the most homosexual riddle ever.

Vollstrecker 2004-05-27 09:40 PM

Damn, thought I had it. I suppose I'll have to give it a closer look.

Titusfied 2004-05-27 10:59 PM

Hah, it personally took me about 10 minutes to get it, but that is only because I've seen something semi-similar to this, sequential wise that is. This chick I know is pure genius at riddles. Either she knows all that were ever made, or she is pretty good. My guess is she is good. Took her about 2-3 minutes to get this one, at most. I was honestly quite impressed. She has gotten every riddle I've thrown her way, and believe you me, I've hit her with some really tough ones.

I went through about 2 months in my life where I was so bored at my cubicle job that I would look for riddles all day, do them, and find more. I'm not bad at solving them, but she is ridiculous.

Acer 2004-05-27 11:17 PM

1113112221, I will try to actually do this tomorrow... but this is what I guess out of a sequence I think I found in it

Edit: I change it to 1131122211 after when I post it I noticed something

D3V 2004-05-27 11:18 PM

1112213211

D3V 2004-05-27 11:27 PM

Gimme another riddle.

Sovereign 2004-05-27 11:29 PM

Yea, bring it on.

People are just fucking guessing numbers..

The actual answer is 1112213211, and it's not a sequence, nor does it have a damn thing to do with mathematics.

Sadly, D3V already said it.

I got tired of looking at all the stupid numbers, so I passed that one right up.

I actually got $5 for solving that riddle in Cal 2 before anybody else taking the course. Me = pwn.
