My system has just been wrecked by a trojan, IRC/BackDoor.SdBot.FKS. This was immediately followed up messenger service messages claiming that Windows has found "Critical System Errors" and directing me to one of two sites, wxx.regwin32.com or wxx.uric.net. On reinstalling Windows I can't get on the net long enough to install a virus checker before this trojan comes down again. Links to antivirus websites are also blocked.
Did you have any Trojan problems before you started to get the error message?

It's not an "error". Notice how the popup dialog box is captioned Messenger Service and is sent from a user called "SECURITY"? It's a spam message sent from someone who has found your computer's IP address, or your IP chain. The sender clearly wants it to look like an authentic error message, and wants you to visit the address listed for a solution to the problem, which is clearly a bogus, and may infect your computer with real viruses/spyware.

So here's what you do:

1) Open up your control panel form the start menu and click Administrative Tools.

2) Start up Services from the Administrative Tools folder.

3) Scroll down to a service called Messenger and select it.

4) Stop the service. VoilĂ , no more spam messages, problem solved.

^What he said.

And you could also quit downloading so much fucking porn to stop the problem from ever happening in the first place.

tidus2005 2006-01-31 07:25 PM

actually i down load my share of porn and i dont seem to get these messages.

sciencekid 2006-02-03 01:45 PM

i had that too. after i updated my stuff on the comp(anti virus, updates, and such) and they went away by themselves. Chruser: i checked what you said and it wasn't there, so how'd it go away if i didn't click to stop the service?
