Why can't you do this anymore?

You can no longer quote a quote anymore I believe. At least, if you quote a post that has a quote in it, the previous quote is removed. I know this isn't how it's always been, why was it changed? It can kinda screw up logical reading this way. Say you quote a post that has a quote in the middle of it and the quote is removed, it looks like the post is all one topic, but it could be multiple topics in one post. Dunno if this makes any sense, I can clarify if needed. Just to test I'll try to quote a quote here.

Hey wtf all the quotes disappeared and now my post makes less sense and the flow of the conversation is disrupted. Fix plz!

It's intentional. It stops the mindless quote pyramids of doom. Look on the bright side: Before, the quote tag (any tag, actually) broke after like the 3th or 5th level; now you can quote pyramid all you like, as long as you put in the effort to do it.

Besides. if people would just replay to the post they're replying to, you wouldn't need stupid quote tags for "conversation flow", because the flow would be evident.

What is evident to a computer is not necessarily evident to an average human, noob!

But what if that single post that they are replying to had quotes in it that the original poster was replying to? They disappear, and the quote of the 2nd poster could possibly not make sense.

I can understand there being a limit, but why eliminate it alltogether? Having a limit of 3 quotes inside a single quote would be perfecly fine. It helps a reader backtrack relevant information without having to read the entire thread.

I already know what your reply to this is going to be, use the threaded mode. Not everyone likes the threaded mode, and not everyone uses quick reply correctly, so in my opinion linear mode is superior until everyone uses quick reply correctly rather than just replying to the last post.

(Don't bother, WW has Asperger's)

KagomJack 2007-02-27 12:56 AM

I fucking have Asperger's, but it's not an excuse.

And honestly, I like it this way, but K_A does have a better idea, in my opinion.

Sovereign 2007-02-27 03:28 AM

Some forums I visit have buttons that you have to press to read a quote of a quote. They work pretty cool. Not a big dela to me though.

I know exactly what you're talking about, it's pretty damn nifty. It's pretty much posts inside posts, it's absolutely amazing for guides and stuff like that, because you can have separate buttons for each topic and they expand and minimize at the user's will.

Grav 2007-02-27 10:22 AM

Spoiler buttons?

!King_Amazon! 2007-02-27 10:42 AM

That's what they are called, yes. We should get them. They're superior to the spoiler feature we have now, as they can be used for other things as well.

WetWired 2007-02-27 01:12 PM

The system we have now can be used for other things, too

I think you're just a lazy ass that doesn't want to change anything because it's too much work.

Oh wait I probably shouldn't say that because you're an admin.

Nevermind, you can just suck on my balls.

WetWired 2007-02-28 07:09 AM

Well actually, I had come up with a collapse bbcode a few years ago; I'm trying to remember why I never added it.

Haha! Great! :p

I was half expecting it to pop out a Coca-Cola, rather than a Pepsi.

WetWired 2007-03-04 04:00 PM

I've worked out a collapse tag, which I will add at the same time as the new tab-control tags I'm still working on (they'll share some JS).
