The Fallout series (1 and 2) are some of the best turn-based RPGs available for the PC.
If you haven't played them, I highly recommend checking them out. They're a riot. |
My brother and his friend were addicted to them.
Fuck that. I've got not-being-fat to do. |
Ive just installed both of them, and watched the intro for Fallout 1 (saw the F3 trailer the day it was released, and it took my interest straight away).
Tomorrow I'll start to play it - can't wait. :D |
Fallout 1 wasn't quite as humor-laden as Fallout 2, but Fallout 1 was certainly beyond great at the time of its release. Fallout 2 simply outperformed Fallout 1, which was already a great game.
Honestly, I have yet to encounter a gamer who didn't like the games if they had tried them. |
Anyone know where to snag 1 n 2 for free? :) lol
|
I think that would constitute Warez, which I think is a bannable offense to post.
|
hmm nevermind then. Ill just stick to my boredom.
|
I found a dual pack with both games at Best Buy for $10. Course, that was years ago. I'm sure you could find them for sale online somewhere. Life as a gamer is truely incomplete without the Fallout games. They brought the concept of "sandbox" gaming to the PC long before GTA III hit the PS2. Sure, the graphics and turn-based battle system may seem dated now, but the content of the games is purely fantastic.
|
It'll be very interesting to see if Bethesda can pull off the black humour in F3. It's pretty much given that they'll have the whole sandbox thing sorted.

I do hope they actually fix the radiation system. It always seemed kind of vague in 1 & 2.
|
I'm sad to say I've never played either of these games. I'll have to check them out, as I've heard that they are magnificent.
|
Well I played a few hours of F1 on Sunday - I've got 94 days to get the water pumpy thing.
To say it's such an old game, it plays fine on this computer (apart from the odd moment when the screen goes black and the picture only appears when you move your mouse over it), and it's surprisingly good fun. :) |
Isn't it interesting how old games eventually stop working on newer computers?
|
Can't say I've ever had them stop working, but I've had lots of problems graphics wise. A few seem to just jutter their way along, merrily ignoring the rest of the world.
One thing that surprises me is how some games that are ten or so years old, actually have the options for big resolutions - for example, Populous: The Beginning and Ghost Recon seem to be able to go up to the 1600s. I'd imagine that a lot of games would have trouble running on Vista, though. |
I know for some old DOS games you have to have a dosbox to run them.
|
By the way, I found a couple downloads for packaged Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 combined, not legal but if you know where to look they're super easy to find(and have lots of seeders too(hint))
|
That's probably the one I, ahem, didn't download on Friday in a couple of hours. It isn't 1.09gb, by any chance, is it? Because that's definitely not the one I, ahem, acquired.
|
Well there's "Fallout; The Ultimate Collection" which is 3.49 Gigs, but I also see the one you're talking about which is simply just Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 that is 1.09 Gigs. Not sure what exactly the Ultimate Collection is, probably Fallout: Tactics or whatever else they have.
|
From what I've read and heard, any games other than Fallout 1 and 2 aren't worth playing.
Don't know if Voll or VD can back me up on that. |
Haven't played Tactics. I heard conflicting reports about it. Then there was the abominable console game "Brotherhood of Steel," which, from what I understand, was simply a bastardization of some of the topics/themes of the Fallout universe in an isometric overhead shooter format (also didn't play that). I definitely give my seal of approval to the first two games, with the caveat - save often and in different save slots. There are some glitches that can be quite irritating, so it's nice to have multiple points from which to reload the game.
