Take back your screen space
I don't understand what this "long panel" does.
Cuts down the avatar box on the Synthesis style to basically make the page height smaller. If you look, the postbit, with activity, member group, username and posts stays, but the things beneath it like add rep, the green rep bars, and the options to IM, block, or add as a buddy disappear. Add rep and the green rep bars are now in the space under the post that Quick Reply inhabits.
For those of us with screens big enough to block out the sun, I don't really see much need, but for those who post from work and who, I assume, will be stuck with the horrible old CRT monitors with just enough monitor space to hold the cursor, it means they won't have to scroll as much to read a thread. EDIT: Hehehe. When you hover over the postbit, the box expands with your IM icons and block/buddy icons. :p |
It's called long panel because the user panel is allowed to extend beyond the post height, but when I changed the avatar rules, I apparently got rid of the people with the longest user panels. MJ is the only one left, I think. In any case, the purpose is reduction of the minimum post height from 225px to 160px. I got tired of tons of blank space below each post because of every thing that could be in the user panel, so I did somthing about it.
Here's an example of a worst case: http://zelaron.com/forum/showpost.php?p=607897 |
I still don't get it, but it sounds cool.
Okay so I clicked that link and now I can't get Ocean back even when I change it in the User CP. What's up with that?
Try using the drop-down style chooser at the bottom of any page.
How about a not-so-bright-violet version of this? Sort of hurts my eyes...
Also, on firefox, when I mouse over someone's avatar it gets all screwed up. Icons pop up only when moused over, and it somehow makes the bottom of the avatar window move a few inches down the page every time. http://www.picaroni.com/firefoxbroken.gif |
Well, I'm just toggling between display:none and display:block on the whole row, so there's no excuse for firefox to do that.
Does the same thing for me. Fix it, fool.
See if that fixes it...
Yep, all better.
Just firefox being retarded, like usual...
How dare you. Firefox is a pretty new compared to IE correct? You deny that it does have many upsides? It's ahead of it's time really. I like long panel alot. Would it be possible to get a Long Panel/X79 hybrid?
Being new and having upsides is irrelevant. When it comes to web sites, if you don't get things 100% right, then FF looks at it, laughs, and displays it any which way it wants. It's far too strict.
--- I think Long Panel is something that is either restricted to a single style, or is on every style. It'll just be a change of, and addition of new code in the stylesheet, but to have it with every style will mean double the number of styles. Unless some kind of hack is coded that puts a tick box in the User CP that, if ticked, changes the code in the stylesheet, or simply the stylesheet (which would still mean double the number of stylesheets), then I think it might be kept to the Liquid Violet version of Synthesis until something is done. |
Actually, the plan is to roll it into Synthesis's base code, if noone has issues with it. Anyone try it with a browser other than IE or FF?
Maxthon - It's based on the IE code, though. But it works (Long Panel, that is).
Opera should work, too. From experience, if FF hates it, then so does Opera. And if FF likes it, so does Opera. |
This is now the default for all Synthesis styles.
