Post Transition

I've got a suggestion that may be controversial by some, but honestly who cares.

Recently i've been looking through pages of posts in this thread.

http://zelaron.com/forum/showthread.php?t=34152

Yes, there are thousands upon thousands of posts in there, not necessairily having to do with anything, other than what song people are listening to.

Now, my suggestion is that this should be moved to the WRT (where the posts DO NOT count)

I see this as just a spam thread which doesn't really do anything besides exploit the post count.. Then again it is just a suggestion.

There are many threads that are mostly excuses to raise the post count. The question is whether or not it would really improve anything to move them there?

I am for anything that makes useless posting more useless.

Doubtful, but that thread is on a much higher scale than most, and doesn't even carry any significance than any other thread, it's just a counter basically, a song updater.

I'd argue against moving it, seeing as it's got a subject, which people adhere to, rather than mindless spam as in the WRT. I've listened to many suggestions from the thread, as have others. Hell, I don't see why it shouldn't be in Gen Con, or the Entertainment forum.

However, the Chatterbox has countless threads that are in the same vein, and are also offenders. If you think What Song are you Listening to? warrants a move, then should the following not also merit a move:

The Official Salutation Thread
Type a relevant word to the one said above
Picture Counting Thread

To give a few examples. Two of which were actually started by yourself.

According to your last post, the Picture Counting Thread is a bigger offender than the music thread, for is it not an actual counter?

I say leave them where they are - they contribute, with content, so why move them?

D3V 2008-03-18 11:57 AM

The saluation thread is in the same vein, but the picture counting thread atleast follows a pattern, not just randomness. And the revelance thread is the same thing, what i'm saying though is the What song are you listening to thread is just on a higher scale.

WetWired 2008-03-18 12:24 PM

I'm sorry, but picture counting is definately less constructive than listing musical interests.

D3V 2008-03-18 01:04 PM

Yes, and you are entitled to your opinion. I feel they're both equally retarded, just one has been going on for longer than the other. I guess my point isn't valid, feel free to close this thread now.

Very well put, Lenny.

Lenny nailed it in the first sentence. These threads have a subject and people stay on that subject. They're probably more on topic than 95% of the threads on Zelaron. There's no reason to equate them to the WRT, which is where garbage gets dumped and people babble mindlessly.

The WRT was made not to count because there are people who literally have THOUSANDS of posts in there. You can sit there and spam post after post in there all day for all we care. You can't do the same in these other threads.

I agree. Why move one thread and leave the rest. That is like letting one person bend a rule for no reason and not letting anyone else.

I agree, this isn't a hard concept to grasp...

A way to value the usefulness of posts (e.g. our current reputation system) appears more viable these days than post count. The big avatar does emphasize activity very well, and some form of a store system would do so even more, but it's still not directly related to post count.
