Bird preying on goats
This is a badass bird: http://youtube.com/watch?v=DwepjctCkL0

And I thought geese were mean... Most ferocious bird ever?
Quite brutal. Nice find.
That was one bigass eagle.
That was awesome, picking on goats like that. I wonder why at one stage though of the clip the eagle grounded for a couple of times and let the goat chase at it. Mental flaw?
Creative way to kill your pray Mr. Bird. Drag it off a 200 foot drop.
That is a badass bird. It's pretty fucking smart. Or at least, maybe smarter than people make animals out to be.

Imagine if the deer and bird eagle were humans.
How would that video have been recieved? How exactly do we differentiate between murder and prey of the hunt? Is it because they are of different species it is deemed okay? Even in nature where animals kill their own kind, most often siblings, humans say it is alright, whereas if they were human, they would be put on trial. Hmm... |
Siblicide is actually fairly uncommon in the animal kingdom. There are a few examples of it, but they are the exception rather than the norm.
It's still awesome to see an eagle drag a goat off a cliff by it's leg!
Wasn't there a species of birds on or near one of the Galapagos islands noted for siblicide? I forget if it's one Darwin went to.
The reason was that if more than one sibling survived, even if the mother could provide food for both, the liklihood of her herself not surviving to mate the next year increased dramatically. Is siblicide or other forms of own-species killing found anywhere in nature without a reason? We like to say animals can't reason, but we kill with no meaningful reason ourselves. |
