I really wish...
I wish I could be running this board, full-time and get paid for it, but that would never happen. Life usually never gives anyone what they want, does it? :)
No, but for real, if you had a choice between being a well-paid surgeon, or doing whatever you think is fun in life with a bit less money, what would you choose? (Taco, you're not permitted to answer, since you've already claimed that you want to be come a surgeon for personal reasons). Personally, I beleive that you won't get anywhere in life unless you try to do whatever you're interested in. |
Uh.. personally if I had a choice I'd go the money route.
|
Why, Graviton? Do you think life is all about money? Will it matter after we die? Will ANYTHING matter after we die?
I'm sick of seeing the common social status with people climbing up the social pyramid. The further you get, the more exhausted you are, and the narrower your path becomes. Why be like everyone else? Who decided the life should be a game of monopoly that allows you to file $28 billion lawsuits against tobacco companies? Money is just an abstract thing, one moment you don't have it, and the next moment, you win $50 million at the lottery. How would it feel to work for 40 years, just to see your poor friend who has enjoyed life for so long just surpass your economy in a matter of seconds? Wouldn't you wish you had done all the fun things in life already, instead of having spent 40 years, doing what you hate, hoping that you will become better than everyone else? No, I don't beleive that the money route is the way to go. |

I don't consider the lottery a factor at all, I won't play the lottery.. I'm not going to do what I *hate*, but I will do a boring job for a six figure salary. Also, 'boring job' = 'time to goof off on the computers when the boss isn't looking' If I wanted to do what I loved, I'd be playing MMORPG's my entire life. But I can't. |
same here. its important to get a job that you enjoy with a high pay check and wont be obsolete in the near future. if you cant, then go with the money. its hard to be happy when you're living out in the streets or having to worry about your budget all the time.
*GM and chruser, do you know what would be really cool? hired professional mods that will stay active. :D |
Heh, lets make it big like AOL and all get paid!

Well perhaps my "advanced age" can be of help here lol. I got a high paying corporate job right out of college with a major investment company (Fidelity). It was 12 hour days and office politics and the usual corporate middle mangement bullshit and backstabbing but I clawed my way up pretty far in a short time.
Then the market crashed and I was laid off with about 10,000 other smart ambitous young people. I was so disillusioned that I didnt even look for a job for 6 months. I decided to do something fun and for the next ten years I did all kinds of interesting things from lifeguard to white water rafting guide, no stress, all fun, and mostly outdoors. I only recently decided to rejoin the corporate world because I dont trust anyone but myself to provide for me in my retirement. (and it is NEVER to soon to think about planning for that) and that is where the easy bucks are to be made. I shopped around and found a management positon that allows me great freedom and quality of life and still pays a decent salary but... It is still pretty boring and not very challenging. I guess my point is that if you can do something you love and get paid for it well then you have found the best thing going. I took a lot of time off from "real jobs" and have never regretted doing it. The really hard part is finding out what you love :) |
Please, change that avatar. It's hard to take anyone seriously with that.

Fidelety investments? It sounds like a good company, but it has some crappy ads. :\

I'm not willing to be miserable for the sake of making money. If the cost of financial security is hating 90% of the time I'm awake, I'm not keen on the idea. If I find something I enjoy doing that pays enough for me to live on, I'll stick with it.

yeah i was go'n to say what if you want a multi million dollar job...I want to become and actress...man tom cruse makes 25 million a year...!!! I don't really see how you can amount to much if you don't do the things you like or love...? but that's just me...
