I dunno about natural selection but in savage you can : build, repair, mine, hunt, kill and hit building in each case you gain exp you can get gold of hunting killing and hitting building not to mention it give some gold to your commander when you do that. Level are carried whit you even if you change to another creature or human character tho if you take a unit more expensive it will cost you gold. Also there item you can buy like items for both race and weapon for human ranged mostly.
