European trade publication MCV is reporting that the GameCube sold 75,000 units in England during its first two days of availability in that territory. The publication is also reporting that some independent retailers were forced to buy stock from chain retailers who were offering the console at cheaper prices. The problems have been attributed to poor stock allocation on Nintendo's part.

Andy Williams, general manager of Nintendo UK, said, "The Nintendo GameCube has got off to a flying start in the UK. Seventy-five thousand sales in just two days is excellent, and just goes to show that the GameCube delivers what gamers want: a dedicated console with a range of excellent games at an unbeatable price."

The GameCube also sold well in Germany, where 50,000 units were purchased in two days. We'll have more on the European launch of the GameCube as it becomes available.
