And the industry has also chosen Blu-ray.

---

Look at the facts:

- Blockbuster rent and sell Blu-ray, not HD-DVD, in an obscenely large majority of their high-street stores.
- The majority of Hollywood studios are exclusive Blu-ray supporters, with the few that are left being adopters of both formats, or just HD-DVD (a very small number).
- Blu-ray discs are outselling HD-DVD discs in every territory. Generally, for every one HD-DVD sold, there are three Blu-ray discs sold.

Then there's those about the discs themselves:

- Single layer HD-DVD can hold 15gb of data, compared to the 25gb of Blu-ray.
- A dual layer HD-DVD can hold 30gb of data, compared to the 50gb of Blu-ray.

Blu-ray discs can hold more content, or content of a higher quality.

And let me tell you, the quality of a Blu-ray film is phenomenal! Remember how amazing it was to go from a VHS recording to a DVD recording? It's the same when you go from DVD to Blu-ray - not only is the picture clearer and sharper, but the colours are a lot richer and deeper. The sound is also a lot better, seeing as it needs no compression.

Then think of a Blu-ray disc being used for games. The Xbox 360 uses DVD-9's - each game can only take up 9gb, and so needs to be heavily compressed to fit onto one disc. PS3 games, on the other hand, can be put on the disc with no compression at all. For example: Resistance: Fall of Man - 16gb, LAIR - 25gb, Heavenly Sword - 25gb (10gb of which is uncompressed audio). It's reported that Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is going to make use of a dual layer Blu-ray disc, as may Metal Gear Solid 4. Ninja Theory have commented that they will definitely use a dual layer Blu-ray disc for Heavenly Sword 2.

Who's heard of the new game from ID called Rage? The Xbox 360 version will be two-discs. The PS3 version? A single Blu-ray disc. And why? It's the textures. A single level can contain up to a massive 20gb of textures!

The price of Blu-ray is going down quickly. You used to have to pay twice the amount for a Blu-ray disc over a HD-DVD disc, and now they're equal. And the prices of players are plumetting - a year ago you'd pay as much as $1000 for a Blu-ray player, now, with the PS3, you can get a high quality one (with full upscaling capabilities, and the ability to output 1080p at 24Hz) for $499. There are players coming out soon that will be $300.

Need I go on any more?
