purpose for pvp

Hi everyone, I'm new here, but I know Drithe, who's been playing for a while. I used to PvP all the time on OSI servers back in the Reniassance days, and seeing Drithe play this shard has lured me here. I love the ruleset of this shard for the most part (except I could stand for the skill gain to be slower), but I think that there's one thing missing.

PvP is fun in its own right, but it's even more fun with a greater goal and incentives for team work. I propose a factions-like system, with headquarters, and the ability to "take over" key points on the server such as dungeons and fortresses. Taking them over wouldn't have any effect on non-participants, but it would give some kind of bonus to the conquerers in that area. Maybe the ability to gather "silver" from the monsters in that area which could be used to buy faction related items like war horses, faction-colored gear, base enhancements, etc. It gives in incentive to for teams to capture an area, without negatively effecting those who don't wish to participate. It also doesnt give those who do participate any unfair advantages over the rest of the server, because the perks only help within the faction system, or just look cool. Of course things can be simplified, or more could be added as feasability permits, this is just a basic idea. I would be happy with any sort of team-based pvp system resembling factions.

I realize it would be time consuming to create bases and code the systems, but it doesn't seem unrealistic to me. It's a much simpler system than the Factions system used in OSI UO. There are only two teams, the effects of capturing an area are quite limited, all of the required artwork already exists...

There are probably higher priorities such as getting the server to run bug- and lag- free, and other gameplay enhancements. I just think this would be a good long term goal for the server, considering how much fun it would add to the PvP, and the fact that a large part of the population is here mainly to PvP. Not to mention a system like this could do more to help this server stand out from the crowd and attract new players.
