The PvM Pally:

The Player Vs Monster paladin is simple to build, you just have to know what items you will be using around level 60 or so. A good setup for PvM is to use a Herald of Zakarum Shield, Shaftstop armor (Though Guardian Angel, or Arkaine's Valor will do just as fine), A String of Ear's belt and any helm that will give you either Life Leech or Resistances. Good rings to have are ones with lots of Attack Rating on them, as you don't want to miss with your weapon. Raven frost Rings are good, since they give Both AR and Dexterity. lastly you want a good weapon, my personal preference is a Lightsabre, it has Ignore Target's Defense, which will do exactly that against anything but the most elite monsters and the bosses, It add Lightning and Magic damage, is VERY fast for a weapon of its type, and won't put your character in the poor house acquiring one.

Level 20 Fanaticism

Level 20 Holy Shield

Level 1 Zeal

A good add on to these skills with your remainder is to put points into either Holy Freeze or Conviction, or both.

The Support Pally:

This guy is fun to play for his auras. He isn't designed as a fighter and won't survive very long in a toe to toe with any real threat. The basic setup for this guy is like this.

Level 20 Fanaticism

Level 10 Defiance

Level 15 Holy Freeze

Level 5 Prayer

Level 5 Salvation

Level 15 Conviction

This setup won't keep you alive very long by yourself, but if your in a group, doesn't matter of what chars, they would definitely benefit from your presence.

The PvP Pally:

Of Player Vs. Player paladins there are a few different types. The Smiter, the Fists of Heaven or FoH'din, the Blessed Hammer or Hammer'din, The Charger, and a few variations on the Zealot.

The first type we typically see is the Zealot. There are a few types of these.

Fanaticism/Zeal:

Level 20 Zeal

Level 20 Fanaticism

Level 20 Holy Shield

Any other skills placed as how you deem desirable.

This paladin type relies heavily on Increased Attack Speed or IAS and Life Leech. So be sure to have tons of both. Also you are going to need a healthy amount of Damage Reduce items, any combination that adds up to 75% will be ideal Popular choices are Shaftstop Mesh Armor, Vampire Gaze Grim Helm, and Stormshield Monarch. Weapons of choice are almost always Fury weapons for their 6% Life Leech, and -25% Target's Defense, and 40% Increase in attack speed.

Conviction/Zeal:

Level 20 Zeal

Level 20 Conviction

Level 20 Holy Shield

level 20 Fanaticism

This setup is the Elemental Zealot, where said PvP character uses a lot of elemental damage in his/her attacks. The setup is pretty much the same as the Fanat Pally though to be successful you're going to need quite a bit more IAS items to make up for the difference of not having Fanat on. Notice that Fanaticism was still maxed out, I have it this way for aura switching purposes. Because of Lag over the Battle.Net it takes 3 seconds for an aura to take effect, and another 8 seconds for it to wear off. So you can throw up Conviction, wait 3 secs for it to take hold, then switch to Fanat to work your opponent down. For long battle you want to switch auras about once every 5 seconds to keep it active, let the aura sit for about 2 seconds and you should be fine.

The Smiter:

Level 20 Fanaticism

Level 20 Holy Shield

Level 20 Smite

The Smiter is possibly the hardest melee Pally to fight, as Smite has no Attack Rating, it never misses.

The only problem with Smiters is they can't leech life or mana from their opponents. As with the typical setup, you want to use Damage Reduce, but instead of Stormshield, use a Blade Barrier or Herald of Zakarum, the smite damage is much higher. As with all PvP you need a lot of life, this guy especially needs it, as you can't steal it off of your opponent. A good thing to have in addition is Inc Atk Speed, this will make your smite blurringly fast, and very powerful.

The Charger:

These guys rely heavily on the first strike to kill an opponent. hit Fast and Heavy is typically how they work. To accomplish this you need a whole lot of AR, and high dmg.

Level 20 Charge

Level 20 Vigor

Level 20 Fanaticism

The weps are typically Hammers, Scheafer's Hammer being a very popular item for charging, another one to consider is A Fury Legendary Mallet. Again Damage Reduce items here, no surprise. Keep rushing and most chars will get run over.

The Blessed Hammerer:

This is a hard guy to use, but can be a lot of fun.

Level 20 Blessed Hammer

Level 20 Concentration

Level 20 holy Freeze

This guy, if you can't get at him through his barrage of Hammers will make short work of most chars, since this attack uses magic damage, there is nothing you can do to reduce it, aside use the woefully inefficient magic damage reduce items.

hmmmm... These build seem to come out directly from 1.09 since they do not mention synergy nor relies on synergy...

Because the Hammerdin needs 20 blessed aim and 20 vigor to be fully synergized. And the zealot needs 20 sacrificed too.
