Game Development Team (Thread 3)

The old thread is getting pretty damned cluttered...

Blue said:
Wed-G, this thread is getting a bit long, heh. If you want, create a new thread with all the info you have so far in the first post, all nice and organized. I'll lock this one if you do so. That'll make this a bit easier to read for your team members, and it'll help you put everything together.
No-one get angry at me for making a new one.

----------

Team Name: BLADESTAR PRODUCTIONS

----------

MEMBERS

Director - Wed-G

2 Programmers [Original Sin, Wed-G]
2 Graphics Artists [Aurvian,?]
1 Animator [Draco2003]
3 Writers [?, Lenny, ?]
2 Map Designers [Wed-G,?,?]
2 Resource Gatherers [?,?]
5 Beta-testers [Mr. Medieval Bob, Wed-G,?,?,?]
1 Webdesigner/Webmaster [Original Sin]
1 Concept Artist [Aurvian]
1 Character Designer [Aurvian]
1 Game Engine Developer [Wed-G]

I don't know the rest so...if anyone does, PM me and I'll stick 'em up...easier than lots of random posts about who's doing what...

And one especially for BC:

1 Honourary Question Answerer/In game Random Tutorial Guy [BlueCube]

Those who may still want to join us all:

To join the development team, all you need to do is send an e-mail to
[email protected] with either
a) a small zip file showing moderate programming skills.
b) a sample image made with MSPaint, IDraw3, D-Pixed or IrfanView.
c) a sample or full game script detailing the surroundings and characters.
d) a small zip file with a few sample maps (preferably MacandBlue chipsets).

If you have any questions or comments, e-mail the teamleader at:
[email protected]
(Submissions to this address will not be viewed).
Please don't send him viruses again, the fuss he made last time, well, we don't want a repeat...

----------

We are either using RM2K3, or RMXP...

If we can program the RMXP script to allow movie cutscene things then we will most likely use RMXP.

----------

COMMUNICATION

So, time lists:

Me - GMT
Aurvian - GMT -5
Draco - GMT -8
Wed - GMT -6

I'm on all 4 messenger things (ICQ, AIM, Yahoo and MSN) as is Tyran. Aurivan is only on AIM I think. And Wed and Draco are on Yahoo.

Sign up for Yahoo mail here. All you need for Yahoo messenger is the email address that sign-up will give you.

You don't need to download the messenger program. You can find it at www.e-messenger.net. Log on with the username and password you signed up with.

----------

Some chipsets I think we will be using in the game:

(BlueCube note: charas-project doesn't like direct links to their resources, so normal hyperlinks will result in a 403. Removed URL tags. You'll have to copy/paste these, but you'd have to do that anyway to get around the 403.)

(Lenny to BC note: Whenever I edit this post to add new info, rectify old info etc. then the url tags keep on coming back...will removing the "http://" work permanently? If it does, then I'll remove them and tell people...)

(BlueCube to Lenny to BC note: There's a "Automatically parse links in text" checkbox while editing or posting - uncheck that and you can leave the http:// in. It doesn't matter much anyway, http:// is pretty much deprecated nowadays.)

(Lenny to BC to Lenny to BC note: So there is. I'll use that instead then. Thanks...in fact I won't use it. I've got other links that needing parsing...I'll stick with removing the http://)

Read the above notes to see why the "http://"'s have been removed...

Forest Temple:

One little problem I've come across with the chipsets...they load as quicktime thingies on the pages, and cannot be copied...printscreens are never very good so if we wanna use them...well...maybe someone can get searching to see where else they are...

ABOUT THE GAME

Title - Legend of Legaia

Reading through the previous two threads, it seems to be established that the game is gonna be your regular RPG - hero, quest, party etc.

I'm in the process of writing "The Power Pernicious", which I think is forming the base of the game. I don't know...

Wed, I think, is writing his script with the third writer?? I don't know whether it is completey independent of what I'm writing or whether he's putting my thing into script thing...the discussions in the previous threads weren't very enlighteninig...

The previous threads can be found here:

We (as in Wed-G and I) will take Lenny's approach to describe the main character. We want to make him as heroically evil as possible. We want him to be able to become the strongest character(in the end) possible.

The "final" is Bladestar.

I really want to do the game in 2K3. Besides, I don't have an XP capable comp. WINDOWS 98 G! uh...yeh.... anyway.

And *summons bluecube* bluecube, grab a charset and post it. I need a char file fo u.

I like RM2K3 better so lets do it in that. XP is so more customizable, but lets stay with our fans who play legal games...

Legend of Legaia? man I need to 'play' more RPG's

Well, if you're hurting for people, I can beta test... They're usually in great supply, though, so... Just whatever. Do I need to send an email?

You could do if you want...how you'd show you can beta test I don't know......maybe you can take some kind of test...???

I don't see any reason why you can't, so if Wed says yes, then welcome aboard Mr. Bob.

I had a list of games I've been in beta (most open some closed) of somewhere...

Planetside
Diablo 2
WC3 TFT
Neocron
Savage
Prisontale
Lineage 2

It's about 3 times as long as that if I could find the list... Though that doesn't necessarily say much.

To me that seems more than enough...

Is it possible to move anything that isn't of great importance to the game (say it doesn't help us progress in any way) into the previous game development thread??

Also, if possible, can you rename the previous two threads as Game Development Team (Thread __) and then it's number, 1 or 2...???

I would ask Blue, but you're the nearest mod...

I'm only a mod for the off-topic forums. You'd have to get BC, a supreme mod, or an admin to do it for ya.

Done, and making this one "Game Development Team (Thread 3)" to fit in with the 'style' of the other ones.

Meh, any male character will do, something that fits in with the general 'style' of the town. It's better to just have someone that fits in with the town than have someone that just doesn't 'belong' there.

I got a test Bob could take. We could have him proof read a quick article with some intentional errors, and see if he passes that. Then stage 2 could be someone that throws together a quick game, with problems, and he could debug (by debug I mean write down what was wrong with it and let someone else check/correct it). And stage 3 would be critique the game. If something worked, but coulda been done better (coding or other) then he could make suggestions, and if the team sees it as a better option, then they could use that.

I havent made that drawing of my character yet. For some reason I cant draw him anymore. I try and try and try and he always looks messed up. Plus, even worse, i lost my scanner so I cant upload anymore pics I draw. Anyways, thanks for the RGSS sites, that is a very interesting thing, and I am trying to learn it. I might not be able to be the Animator, but I dont wanna be completely dropped from the team. I need a new computer at home, so, yeah. Until next time, fellow members.

EDIT: I am -8 which is Pacific time, and I can chat, if that would help. My SN is, you guessed it, Draco2K3.

How's the scripty thing going for our game?? And what's savagebob's role in the game making process?? He seemed to appear to be with us for a few days, and we haven't heard from him since...

Edit:
I don't know if Medieval Bon thought that the bob I mentioned (before changin it to savagebob) was him. If it was, sorry for the confusion. I usually call you Mr. Bob so...nnh, nice to hear from you anyway

He he he...what happened to grammar nazi???

----------

The game is still in the stage where we are writing the story...or at least, I know I am...you'll probably be waiting a few months at least before you have something to test, and even then, it will prob only be a demo.

I don't know how good you are at knowing a good RPG when you see it but...you could judge us on that...also, look at thread two. If you have any expertise in the field of party member attacks etc. (their classes - (taking FFX as an example) such as: Mage (Lulu), Healy person (to some extent Yuna), swordsman (Tidus and Auron), thief (Riku), big blue guy... - I can't think what our character should actually do (Kimarhi <-- come on grammar nazi, I'm sure I've spelt that wrong...)...and member 6...) then please help...

Well, next to compelling storyline, originality is always key in my books.

For example, I never liked Gau in FF6 because I thought he simply wasn't as useful or versatile as the other characters. I did, however, love how different from the norm he was. The same holds true for Relm.

If you're just looking for good suggestions, I'd say either a tamer with animals to attack or a builder that can make robots or something to battle for him.

These will all have to fit with your storyline, though. I say work on the characters, their backgrounds, and the storyline, and make their fighting styles come from that.

I'll read the other threads today and tonight. I don't think I have time to sit and read that much all at once at work.

Also, I've read a bit of that word document that you put up. If you want somebody to hit it for grammar and suggest rephrasings, I'm a damn good proofreader.

Please do check it. All of my friends know not to read anything I've written so they leave anything I write well alone......so I'm the only one who checks my things, and after writing into the early hours of the morning well, one can't proof read properly...and I find reading my own things kinda boring...

----------

The tamer idea I think will be good...I've been a thinking that the party meets up with some travelling thingy or other...and the tamer guy can be with this travelling thingy and ends up joining the party for a reason unbeknownst to us all...

Savagebob's role is co-programmer... though thats just a title... he hasn't done crap but draw that picture. And I don't mean to be rude to him, but I am kinda sore right now.......I FELL OFF HIS HOUSE!

EVERYONE! I used some color to get attention.... anyway.

I know we've been workin on this for a long time, and to tell the truth it is awesome to be a part of this. But my haitus from the game is foreshadowing... In about a week I shall upload my engine for the game along with several in-game note I have made. I need about a week to fine-tune it. I shall get on often to talk about it, but for now all you really need in the game is a scriptor. The engine is perfectly ready for someone to just plug-and-play so to speak.

But for now it is my deepest regret to resign... but I shall be here in spirit.

Edit: The reason I am resigning is because I have absolutely no clue what is going on... The story and plot and character choice has fallen through my fingers. I have no grasp of reality. *twitch* *twitch* *spasm*
