I think I'll just make "Air Awareness Day" where everyone holds their breath for 24 hours to respect that which they are given.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if everyone jumped at the exact same time, then wouldn't the forces jumping at opposing sides of the world basically cancel each other out?, even if it were enough to make a difference in Earth's orbital path?

They have a pulldown menu on their site which gives the jump time for each time zone I guess.

But i Doubt it will work either.

And even if this did manage to knock the planet out of its orbit, it wouldn't form a new elliptical orbit that never crossed through the original. The planet's orbit would just become more stretched out and oval.

This wouldn't work because they don't take into account the gravitational force everyone exerts on the Earth itself. For example, if you weigh 185 lbs (or 400 if you're Grav), you would pull that much combined force on the entire Earth itself. Even if everyone were to collectively push the Earth by jumping at the same time, the total gravitational pull of everyone in midair would nudge it back to where it was before.

The only way it would work (and my preferred method) is to blast everyone off into space at high speeds. It would be like a rocket except the fuel would be people! I win.

First off, stop acting like you're smarter than you are.

The gravitational force exerted on the earth by people is so miniscule that it wouldn't affect ANYTHING, let alone the collective force of a billion people's impact.

There are, however, flaws in the plan, and they are as follows:

1) The pushoff of each person jumping would exactly counteract the force of their landing. Ever heard of equal and opposite force? When you push up, you have a certain initial velocity. Your acceleration is constant throughout your entire jump (-9.81m/s/s). Thus, when you hit the ground, you have the exact same force as when you pushed off because your velocity has the same magnitude but it is in the opposite direction.

2) The different times for everyone to jump, based on their time zones, are the exact same time... mjord was mostly right in saying that everyone jumping at the same time would have a cancellation effect. It would be slightly different based upon variables such as elevation (the pull of gravity is different at different heights), weight, and strength of the people jumping. Still, this wouldn't likely make much difference in the actual outcome.

Actually, your acceleration going up in your jump would be X-9.81m/s/s where X is your acceleration due to you pushing off of earth. Your Decelleration would be 9.81m/s/s, then coming back down your acceleration would be 9.81m/s/s.

It is not X-whatever. That's your velocity. You have initial, instantaneous acceleration which is you pushing off. Your acceleration once you're off the ground is always -9.81m/s/s. Your jumping force does not affect the acceleration you recieve from gravity, and no other force is affecting you while you're in the air. Don't fucking question me.

Actually, everyone does exert exactly their own weight in gravity on the Earth. However, for practical purposes it doesn't matter because the already-measly weight is distributed among every piece of matter on Earth. In this situation, it does matter, because we're talking about the entire Earth itself. While everyone is in middair, they're basically floating bodies in space for that short second. Their gravity will affect the Earth.

Regardless, even if it did work, no one would actually do it because when the time comes to do it the typical Internet denizen would probably be busy jacking off to furry porn or downloading the latest anime episode of Bubble Wrapper Condom Betty fansubbed by SaiyanSemenJJ from omgsupersecrettorrents.com.
