Could anyone give me a good web site to learn Ruby at? I am going to make a game on RPG maker but I need to program it and i don't know ruby. No, I do not have a windows computer so therefore don't have RPG maker. I will write the code and send it to atnas and he will enter it.

You can't go learning ruby scripting language without a windows PC. You cannot test ruby codes on a MAC, which is the computer I'm guessing that you have. Get a windows computer, they are clearly superior to a Mac. By the way, I would look for a book. There are no good places on the internet to teach you. I looked around a lot, and couldn't find any. But then I got a book and that really helped me out the most.

I've considered being a translator, but I dunno. It feels like a lot of work. If someone gets angry then I have to deal with it, you know? I'd rather just relax.

Makes you wonder what on earth the Ruby creators are doing releasing a Ruby download for OS X then, if Ruby doesn't work on a Mac.

http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/downloads/

I've found a few sites that are good as guides for Ruby as a language, but not specifically for RPG Maker. Atnas will probably know a few.

Trickster gave me this http://www.ruby-doc.org/core/ when I showed an interest in learning Ruby.

RGSS is Ruby but with prebuilt classes and such. Basically they take all the really hard code you need to write from scratch and do it for you - any new scripts would mainly be modifiers.

http://www.creationasylum.net/index.php?showforum=135 has a bunch of tutorials specifically for RGSS. Just remember you need to know Ruby to write RGSS effectively.

-------------

We might be able to use some already made scripts, it really depends on how complicated we want to make this. If we go with the top down ABS idea, then you really don't need to learn anything.

I didn't need to know. Also, learning the scripting language doesn't just happen instantly. It seems you are taking it as a light scripting language, but I know of no such thing as a light scripting language.

None of those places pointed out had any really good tutorials. I had been there before I obtained three ruby books.

Edit:
I still am going to say this, MAC SUCKS!
You should run VMWare Server, and install a Windows in the Virtual Machine.

I pointed out one place. I don't think there are any "really" good tutorials. You only learn from one as much as you put in.

I think I might just do the coding for the game by myself this weekend - Complex scripting is unnecessary. I found all the scripts we needed in like five minutes.

(Miles, it's due at the end of the month, that's pretty fucking far away.)
