Picaroni v2

While the design remains the same, do not let its looks deceive you. Picaroni, the old-time image hosting site which once grew large enough to seriously bog down this forum, is back in action, more bandwidth-draining than ever!

http://www.picaroni.com

Picaroni is no longer solely an image hosting server, but rather has it become a full-fledged file hosting service which lets you upload Flash films, full-scale bitmaps, music, video and document files. The service is not hosted on the Zelaron server any longer, so the uploads will not interfere with the forum.

During the testing stages, I have set the maximum file size to 2 mb, simply because this is the highest amount any free file hosting service offers without registration. I have a gut feeling the hard drives of the server will fill up very rapidly, so if anyone has a spare hard drive you no longer need, let me know.

Whoo! We can sign up again!

I like how you've lumped everything together on one site:

It annoys me having Photobucket for images, Putfile for videos, Savefile for music, FilePlanet for whatever else etc.

Btw, I can't see anywhere an option to Sign Off?

EDIT: Well that's me signed up.

Great stuff Chruser!

I finally got it Picaroni moved to a server at home. The image thumbnails are disabled, but otherwise it should work just fine. There are no small advertisement texts in the bottom right corner of the images now either. An external hard drive is on the way to allow more images/files to be stored, but feel free to start uploading images again.

Let me know if you find any bugs.

Thumbnails are functional again, and the images cache properly now, unlike last time Picaroni was active. Also, Lenny reported a bug with file deletions, which I have resolved now. I'll work on file name editing and try to change a 404 "missing image" request into a subtle advertisement image.

Feel free to help me look for any bugs. I'm planning to purchase a 320 GB hard drive for the server tomorrow, but I would like to ensure Picaroni is fully functional first.

Is anyone greatly disturbed by the watermarks imprinted on the images? I'm thinking about allowing registered users to choose a smaller one, or remove it altogether, even though that would probably be bad for the site, advertisement-wise.

There isn't a Watermark on that.

Don't let normal members remove it. If they donate a bit, then they should be able to remove it.

Hmmm... would it be possible to show the different links?

Hey Lenny, thanks for your input. The images need to be at least 230 pixels wide for my script to print them with a watermark. Any images below that width will simply not get one, because of the width of the watermark.

As for the the different "link formats" (bbcode, html hyperlinks et cetera), yes, it's very much possible. I have been planning to do so, but I want to find a way to make a clickable button in Javascript that copies the link code into the user's clipboard.

I've found a couple of sites on Google with scripts that look like they'll work.

http://www.htmlgoodies.com/beyond/ja...le.php/3458851 seems to be the best bet.

Have fun with it! I'll try things with my own site later on in the day, see if it will work.

Thanks Lenny. I will implement that soon, when I get time to do so.

On another note, I ordered a 320 GB external hard drive (a fanless My Book Essential) for the Picaroni server, which should arrive any day now. The ads will probably make up for the cost eventually. Most importantly is that the server will not run out of space very fast though. By the time it does, I am sure the income should cover the cost for another hard drive.
