What the fuck
Reply
Posted 2007-09-12, 09:12 AM
So I go to my usual Torrent site (linkage=bad) and I type in some music shit, hit search and this is what it tells me:

Torrentspy Acts to Protect Privacy

Sorry, but because you are located in the USA you cannot use the search features of the Torrentspy.com website.Torrentspy's decision to stop accepting US visitors was NOT compelled by any Court but rather an uncertain legal climate in the US regarding user privacy and an apparent tension between US and European Union privacy laws.

What is this bullshit?

= me

Basically what that's telling you is that they don't want to get sued in the future.

Because of silly lawsuits and courty things by the MPAA, Torrentspy has blocked its service to the US. However, because it's based in Norway, Europe can still use it.

You could always just go onto a proxy website, get you an address through Europe, and connect to the Torret site afterwards. It should work just fine

There's some program that can mask your address and would probably fool the torrett site, when I get home i'll look it up for yah man, can't really do shit at work

That pretty much sucks. Torrentspy is where I've always gone to find non-anime stuff. I hope someone puts up a mirror or something.

Isohunt is a decent alternative if you're looking for one. I've never used Torrentspy, always used Isohunt.

I've recently been using BTMon, supposedly it indexes like 22349786 torrent sites.

Geez.

What's funny is these companies that try and protect the artists are only trying to make more money for themselves, when in all reality most artists make most of their money through their concerts, appearances, etc. These fuckers are just in it for themselves, when in all reality sharing music etc is actually helpful towards who really puts the effort in.

Seen the SouthPark episode where all of the bands go on strike until people stop downloading their music off the internet? After a couple days of this RHCP's drummer asks Kyle: "But why play if we're not gonna make millions?"

Kyle: [turns around and addresses the crowd] Because that's what real artists do. People are always gonna find a way to copy our music and swap it for free. If we're real musicians, then we should just play and be stoked that so many people are listening.
Stan: [joins Kyle and faces the crowd] Beside, maybe our sound would have gotten downloaded for free, but if they were good songs then people still would have bought tickets to see our band in concert. [shots of Rick James, Ozzy, Britney and two other acts.]
Kyle: From now on, MOOP isn't about money. MOOP is about music! We're not striking anymore! Who's with us?!
Britney: ...We're just about the money.
Other acts: Yeah, yeah.
Kyle: [casts his eyes down] Oh.

Ain't that the truth?

Southpark the past like 3-4 years have had the best fucking basis points towards the end, like a moral of the story sort of deal. It's becoming a very great show.... Well, sometimes.

MPAA are actually an independant group of movie reviewers. They're just assholes on rating stuff.

RCIAA is an evil blood-sucking corporation that will not be happy until every single person and their mom are in jail for downloading something.

I was going to post just one or two links abotu Torrentspy and the MPAA, but instead I'll post the search.

http://www.google.co.uk/search?hl=en...tspy+mpaa&meta

They've sued various torrent sites, as well as newsgroups, and have been accused of spying on and hacking Torrentspy.

If I ever for some reason become a Philosophy professor, my students will just watch southpark all through class. There's so much philosophy in southpark.
