I have received a word from my webhost that he will get another server up in a few days for gaming server/radio hosing use. He told me that we could get a game hosted on the linux for free, if we would decide to put a banner for him in the top of this board.

I do know from my own experience that some people can't stand banners, but since this will be the same banner all the time, and it might even look good due to customizable color changes on i, perhaps?

Feel free to talk about it though.

Banners are okay though, but I just can't stand popups.

OMFG, YES, YES, YES!!!!!!!!!

I really want this because if this server could host LoD, it would be l337 town . But you need more games than just UT and UO. Look for everquest, bnetd, etc. IRC?

im with strider, banners arent that bad, its just popups are fuckin GAY!
but if you host a fps, host americas army so i have a server i can always get on, plus a lot of ppl are playing it now-a-days.
bnetd would be a good one, or a legit war3 cd key so i can play it online without any troubles.
you could also set up a nwn server if possible

I think you should have a better Idea of wut you would host, who would run it, How would it be controlled, etc. before you even start to think about getting it ( would cut out a lot of the hassle )

1) "A game" doesn't mean 5 games.
2) It's an UNIX server, and AA apparently does not support UNIX so far.

There are still a few choices though, such as UT, UOX and so on. UT would probably be the least work, but we'll see.

UT = unreal tournament? AA uses unreal engine...

oh and UOX would be an utter mess, you NEED to have someone on hand at the server to fix all the problems all the time every day

None of the unreal engines have an UNIX protocol by default. A programmer made a custom one for UT, which was a huge project. AA will most likely get one, but it will take a lot of time for sure.

uox wont work with unix i dont think... so that limits the options.. i think most of us prefer a FPS u should make a vote for which game to host

UOX is the only shard that DOES work for UNIX systems. Personally, I'd like to see either a simulated battle.net, or UT.
