Soccer is brutal.

Basically, the refs let tonite's game get out of control, resulting in my friend Sean getting his shin broken by the keeper. Sean had the ball, shot, landed on his shooting foot (right), and the keeper went straight through with a late hit, not even going for the ball. If we would have had a decent official, that would have been a redcard (excessive force) and a penalty kick. But, we were stuck with hometown refs who would call the slightest contact on us, but would only call fouls on them when they used large amounts of force.

Just seeing him hold up his leg almost made me vomit; I'm glad I didn't hear it snap. That just broke through any happiness I had, seeing my friend purposefully get injured severely in a game that is supposed to be fun and safe.

That sounds bad, yes, but you can't call football a game that's "supposed ot be fun and safe". Fun yes, safe no. Not much.

Look at the WC matches, watch the South American matches, watch the European Cup, Euro '08, English leagues, Italian Serie, Deutsche Fußball-Liga - they can all get pretty violent.

You won't have heard it over there, but about a week ago a Manchester City [Thatcher] literally went THROUGH a Portsmouth player [Mendes] - he was knocked unconscious. Completely taken out. Thatcher's now been fined £100k and has a loooooooong ban.

Some of the best football matches (ones you rarely see in the Premiership) are the scrappiest - Burnley (team I support) in a derby against Blackburn (biggest rivals) is one of the bloodiest.

And Conference League, County League and Sunday league can get really bad. But that's because very few of the players (Conference excepted) are professionals.

I was nicknamed "Bonecrusher Lendrum" at Primary school, and still am sometimes - I'm a defender, and I really am quite mad, sometimes. It gets the ball, I can intimidate the other players with marking like superglue, and, above all, they stay away from my wing (right). In a primary school match against my [now] best friend's school, I completely went through someone who got past me. Reports say that I ran up behind him and seemed to Rugby tackle him. But I got the ball... Even after the manager had taken me off, the players kept away from the right wing.

All in all - Football can be a very violent sport. What you'll see will be World Class football, ie safe and too professional. What you don't see much of is proper football. In fact, if you watch the 1974 WC match between Hungary and Germany you'll see Hungary going mad with W. Germany after the penalty.

But yeah, I agree, that is an awful foul. Even I wouldn't try that.

The thing that pissed me off was that it was a way late hit. That shouldn't be happening in a small region, especially at the high school level. The other coach encouraged rough play and cheating, too.

Ah, rough play and cheating, always fun.

Say you're marking a player, and his mum is on the sidelines shouting "HIT HIM JIMMY! SOCK HIM ONE!!" because he hasn't touched the ball for 80 minutes, and suddenyl BAM! long pass. What you do is intercept it with a nice volley, and aim it straight at the fat bitch.

It was a shame she ducked.

-----

There are some players who will go for the late hit and try to pass it off as a hard tackle. It just can't be helped.

Stuff like that is why I quit soccer and continued on with hockey. There's no way to take out your frustration (legally) in soccer. In hockey, lay them out with a big hit or drop the gloves (moreso at the major-junior to pro levels though).

Actually, I'm not that upset about it. I just find it funny that a nerd is talking shit about athletes.

A battle of the wits is more down Grav's street.

Break someone mentally, and you've broken them for life. Then you can kick their nerdy, Star-Trek, anime loving ass.

All in a day's work.

I don't battle anything.

If I have a reason to get at you it will happen and you won't know I was involved.

I didn't say I was going to beat his ass. In fact, I've never been in a fight before in my life because I get along with everybody. It's kinda redundant to call someone a "grass fairy" when Sov probably has never even played ANY sport at all.

Grass fairy is a term that my friend, who is one of those nutbags who's uber into sports, used to use quite a bit to describe soccer players. I found it funny back then and for some reason it stuck.

And you're right, I've never wasting my time kicking, throwing, or hitting balls around in a field of grass. I find that more boring then you find anime retarded. I guarantee it.
