My next long post
Reply

My memetics post did not seem to be too popular, so I would like to take a vote on my next long post as to what people would like to read more about. I have two ideas so far:

String theory
Philosophy of Occam's Razor

String theory may be the elusive 'theory of everything.' Essentially, it states that all matter is composed of tiny vibrating one-dimensional strings. This small conjecture has quite enormous and substantial consequences.

Occam's Razor, simply stated, is the philosophy that "all things being equal, the simplest solution tends to be the best one." In this post, I intend to write more about how and where I think it would be best applied to solve real world problems rather than explaining the philosophy itself.

The String theory post will take longer to write, because I haven't entirely finished the book I'm currently reading on it, though I'm quite close.

If you have other suggestions, I'm open to those. Of course, it requires significant knowledge and passion on my part on the subject as well, but we'll see what comes.

As I've not managed to nail down a major yet and figure out what Sciences I'll need in College, I haven't been able to read through String Theory much due to my inability to comprehend it.

I'd be all for a slightly dumbed-down String Theory post, because it sounds bloody interesting!

If you talk about String Theory, use an Ender's game reference.

Does Ender's game have references to String Theory? I don't remember anymore.

I think Bob is talking about where Ender is trying to figure out how the buggers work/communicate. There's one "hive mind" and all the workers are connected to that one mind and they move as a group, not individually. It's not actually in Ender's Game, it's in one of the following books.

Alright, well I'll definitely do one on superstring theory then. Since there does seem to be a little interest in Occam's Razor, I'll probably right one up on that as well...in fact, I might do that first anyway since I can already write one up on that.

And I do remember the other 3 books in the Ender series. Didn't really finish the Bean series. But as far as the Ender series goes, I don't see how the hive mind really has anything to do with string theory.

String Theory.

Though it would be interesting to read your opinions on the Occam's Razor subject.
