To modify images is hard. However, the scientists at Microsoft are working on a solution to make it easier. One of the most interesting things is - Patchworks, a project related to erase objects.
"To erase an object from an image is not difficult, but to fill the actual hole is hard." says Patrick Perez, who is working on the future lab Microsoft research.
There are so-called "clone tools" in graphics' programs like "Photoshop" and "Paint Shop Pro", but they require time and are hard to use. What Patchwork does is to automatically fill the hole after you've removed an object, which is not possible to do in other programs.
Development and research are still in the works. What the results are after the research is completed, is still unknown.
