Why religious debates are pointless.

I have come to the conclusion that they are/always will be pointless. It's not the fact that which ever side you're on you feel like you're talking to a brick wall, it's the fact that both sides feel this equally, hence making the situation a brick wall debating with another brick wall over what will happen after they die.
