I'll first assume you mean he has a 4 hour course, as in BIO 3418. Typically, labs are as long as lectures. If the lab actually is 4 hours, and there is any lecture to go with it, then it would be a 5 hour course... I've never, in my life, heard of a 5 hour course.
If that assumption is wrong, then my point is still valid, as "late" would no longer be an appropriate word after a period of 240 minutes.
