better hardware doesn't mean it is automatically better for everything. i think computers and consoles both have their place in gaming. computers for mmo, rts, and fps, while consoles are used for adventure, rpg, action (devil may cry type), and the harvest moon type non combat rpg. i must say putting such a huge pricetag on consoles partially defeats their purpose. if you have to pay as much for a console as a computer (which is more multi talented) then why bother, i'd deal with a keyboard in an rpg to save 500 bucks. then again, this whole new generation of gaming systems is going down the shitter. wtf is the point of a game with voice recognition, i dont want to see a game where you have to woo some virtual chick audibly and then make out with a tv screen. also, fuck consoles going online, period. all it does is let big companies release unfinished games and then patch 15000 times. WOOT.
Consoles with high pricetags means they have the hardware to back it up, chief. You aren't paying more for a console, most computers on somewhat of the same level are still going to run you more if you get them from ANY retail store.

Take the Blu-ray discs for exmaple.

The PS2 kinda led the way with DVD discs, and look where that format is now. Blu-Ray discs have over 150 companies backing them, including Sony, various major Film companies and two of the worlds largest computer companies.

Compared to the HD-DVD format that the 360 is using, well, it's like a single ant versus Goliath. It's got no chance.

The amazing thing is, the Blu-Ray players are at the moment, and still will be when the PS3 comes out, going for something like £1000 a piece. To say you'll get the PS3 for around £300, complete with the best graphics card out there, and amazingly technology, well, Sony must be absolutely insane!

i dont necessarily think that such a big hardware and price jump is the right direction for consoles, at least in my opinion. on one hand, prettier games could lead to shallower games, which is bad. on the other hand, if they keep putting work into the plot and story of a game, while working up amazing graphics, then it could make for the most amazing game evar. one of the downfalls of great graphics is that the better it gets the more little mistakes catch your eye. in snes games, the graphics were the graphics, they werent trying to hide the pixels and they were great, now with the screenshots from mgs 4, the graphics are amazing, but on the borders between colors the pixelatedness jump right out at you, since the rest of snakes body looks so real. not that its bad, just saying that nothing is perfect and that i dont think huge hardware and price jumps are necessary for consoles.

Give them a few years and they'll get the graphics so good that you won't notice anything. And the fact that the graphics will be 128bit on the PS3, well, yippee!!

Everyone is doing at the moment. THe only place you'll see such a good picture is at a cinema, watching a film.

The thing is though, once you've played for a few hours with the new graphics you won't want to go back.

Just kind of like how Osmoses's gay incestuous children won't want to go back to being straight. Alright, alright ...

Graphics aren't everything. Give me good gameplay/replayability without the point of tedium (get that right?) and I'll be happy.

Time to sleep, drugs kicking in. Bai.
