Some are. You just need to find a therapist that really clicks with your personality. If you're going to your appointments solely to vent, and your doctor isn't doing anything to try and help you gain some perspective on your issues, then you're seeing the wrong guy.
You don't want a doctor that just babies you and tells you everything will be alright. That's what your mom is for. You go to see a therapist to get an objective, unbiased opinion on your problems. You go to a psychotherapist to learn the relevance, meaning and purpose of the things about yourself that you don't understand. If you find a good doctor, it's possible to learn things about yourself that you never would have dreamed were actually going on internally. That kind of perspective can do an incalculable amount of good to aid in mending your personal issues.
