Have you ever been??

It's a weird theme park...or at least seems weird to me. I've grown up with Blackpool (only about 50 miles away) so am used to the rides all being right close together and the park being all concrete. Yet Alton Towers is more like some kind of park with rides dotted here and there.

You ought to go. It's a great place. And some of the rides!! We've got some wonderful pictures of me coming off rides with my hair all over the place because of the speed.

Look at these videos of a couple of the rides we went on:

Air (bad quality - also doesn't give a great idea of the speed): http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/interac.../aironride.htm

Nemesis (again doersn't gave a good idea of the speed): http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/interac...os/nemesis.htm

Spinball Whizzer (not the greatest of videos): http://www.towerstimes.co.uk/interac...ballonride.htm

A zip file of Air, Nemesis and Oblivion: http://www.themeparkreview.net/alton.zip

Watch them...they're not the best but they are pretty good.

Oblivion is fucking amazing when you are on it.

Yeah but you live in America for christs sake. The land of supersized everything.

I live in England. You don't get many world record breaking coasters here. And we just don't have the population to go building hulking great things that need hundreds of millions of visitors a year so the owners can have the money to maintain them.

I was going to go to Ceder Point with my cousin, from Astubula (spelling..)

But I had more important things to spend that dough on. Dude honestly I'm not entirely sure I'd get on top thrill...

Ive been on the Drop Zone in Kings Dominion (tallest freefall ride in NorthAmerica) I fucking hate it. They got one like Top thrill but its like 0-80 and it doesnt spin on the way down..

How is top thrill? too intense>?

Here's a brief run through as how I remember it.

You load up 2 cars at a time.

The first car gets pulled out to a stopping line.

There are 8 lights ont he 420 foot tall tower , put in groups of 2.

They flash YELLOW YELLOW YELLOW GREEN

Within 4 seconds you are accelrated to 120 mhp, and not to long again you hit a 90 degree lift hill. You make I think a 45 degreen turn and you have hit the top. Here there is a chance for it to get stuck (where it will take a few mins for them to get someone up there to actually push you down. This rarely happens), or it will fall backwards in whcih they would rehook you up an launch you again.

At the top the train slows down for a second or two. THIS IS YOU CHANCE to look around. shortly therafter you fall down vertically again and do a i think 145 degree turn

You hit 120 mph yet again as you hit the straight away where you break, make a turn, then hit station.

The ride is probably no longer then 8-10 seconds but it is AMAZING.
