They were but they were never in any Starcraftgames. Were the books made after Broodwar???

I beleive so. The first book, "Liberty's Crusade" was set in the terran missions of the original SC, and the second (forget the title) was set sometime after the original SC missions, though i don't know if it was set inbetween broodwar and SC or going into broodwar already.

It's nothing new that games/movies have references to other games/movies... As long as it doesn't violate copyright it doesn't fucking matter.
