No, it has nothing to do with a Druid, or at least I don't believe so. What Kuja was saying is correct. If you die, your corpse is now on the ground for you to go back and pick it up. If you mistakenly equip an item, say a dagger by mistake, when you go to pick up your corpse, you will not be able to equip you previous item. Now, you will have picked up everything else, but since you couldn't fully equip your character's outfit, your corpse will remain on the ground, as if you didn't pick anything up. If you are killed while this happens, everything you had equipped will explode and drop to the ground.

This is an unfortunate side effect, and other things can cause the same outcome. For example, if you don't have anough base strength for an item, when you pick up your corpse, you will not be able to equip that item, and if you are killed before you can pick it up, again, BOOM, your body explodes all over the ground and it is free picking for everyone.

Hope this helps and prevents this from happening to you again in the future.
