I have ~2 ways I try to change my IP (I'm on DSL).
#1: This worked the first time, but Verizon got smart, it seems. I'm behind a router, so I turned it off DHCP and manually set it for an IP in the same Subnet I was on. I got lucky, and it wasn't in use. Problem solved.
Trouble is, Verizon doesn't like that because they're able to charge extra for people who want a Static IP, so I'm technically getting a free upgrade when I do this. It seems they've assigned my router's MAC address a specific IP address to prevent me from doing this anymore. ><
#2: I unplug my modem's phone connection for ~30 minutes, to have my Address cleared from their DHCP server, reconnect, and see if I get a different IP assigned. Forgot to try this one the other day.
