Really depends on how much you want to do. If you skip all the cutscene, convos, and know what you are doing, and without dying, then you can do it within 5 hours.

I'm on my second run through, and trying to get all the secrets this time. And it takes quite a lot more time.

Good review. I'll definitely pick this one up sometime in the next few months. My PS2 is out on loan, currently, so I'm going to wait to purchase it.

So I finished the second run through, this time I've gotten all the secrets. Well, except for capturing/eating all plants and food...

21 hours. At least 1/3 of that would go to conversation, cutscenes, and movies. And that is without the numurous occasions when I had to... reload the game because I missed the secret frog thing during the motorcycle. (I mean, it is HARD to aim your sniper on a motocycle!)

Nice review.

I have the game, but Im not spending the day on it untill I have access to my PS2 Memory card. (Im visiting my father, and forgot to pack it.)

I tried a little of it.I really like using the knife on enemies, and the animal-eating is fun to toy around with.

You said you didn't think MGS2 was disapointment. Im curious, do you think It's better or on par with the first MGS?

More importantly, do the cutscenes ever get annoyingly long, and are there plot elements in the game that you thought were weird or unnecessary?

I think MGS2 was a great game, and I'd say it is on par with the first, if not better. The main reason why people dislike it is because of Raiden, and those people are really too fed up with "Why is the main character Raiden, not Snake? And Raiden looks too much like a girl, and talks to Rose way too much...."

The way I see it though... Snake has always been a Legend, but we've never really looked at Snake from an other person's view. With Raiden, you can see that Snake IS a Legend. From the way he talks, the way he handles enemies... you get to see it from Raiden's point of view.

Also, the cutscenes are essentials to the game, really. If you want to know the plot, you will have to watch the cutscenes and movies. It is a really lame reason to hate the game just because of movies and cutscenes that you can skip.

Of course, there are things that don't make sense in MGS2.. like the whole Ocelot thing. But sometimes it is a good thing to leave something unanswered so that the gamers will have to guess and second guess the rest. MGS3 tied up quite a lot of loose ends, though.

To each his/her own. I for one hated the relationship between Raiden and Rose. That whole relationship was bland, and a little nausiating. I like a good love story, but hearing those two speak made me want to jump off a cliff.
