California rolls/etc were never made until the Japanese brought sushi to America, they're not authentic sushi, I thought that was common knowledge.
That's confirmed by a few native Japanese friends and my Japanese professor as well.
On the bright side, I had sushi for lunch today. Abby's Dad is out from VA and he took us to lunch at Todai (Japanese Seafood Buffet type place). All you can eat sushi is a good thing.
