Finally out of debt!

don't you want a credit card so you can build your credit to allow you to take loans or something similar later in the future?

Banks are apparently more likely to approve people with good credit ratings and some credit card debt for mortgage loans and such. If you're not interested in ever buying property and always paying cash for used cars, then by all means, don't bother with credit cards. It's fucked up, but that seems to be the way it works.
