As Chase Utley so poingantly put it during the podium speeches at the parade last Friday 10/31/08, "World FUCKING Champions!"
Man, I've been waiting all my life to say that my beloved city of Philadelphia is the world champions in ANY sport. Granted, I was 2 when the Sixers won it in '83, so TECHNICALLY I didn't wait all my life, but I did. Would I have rathered it be the Eagles? Yes. Do I honestly give a fuck now that we won something? Nopers.
I went to the parade on Friday, and it was legendary. I never hugged so many strangers, and just flat out enjoyed myself with a huge smile on my face. Single greatest sporting day of my life.
Apparently, it was the worst rated World Series in recent history, but I don't care. Tell that to the 2.5+ million people that attended the parade between 20th & Market all the way to Broad St and down to the stadiums. It was phenominal.
