If there was a mechanical failure not in the disks (platters) themselves, you could try moving them to another hard drive frame. Magnetic head ("read/write arm") failures are supposedly pretty common.

And that is why I back up to an HDD everything I actually care about. Plus, I also have a lot of my stuff on an SDD. I would actually really recommend getting one for your OS and some games you run a lot. I can boot up super fast and everything runs super smooth.
